The lone adult charged in relation to two consecutive Friday night fights in June at Kin Coulee Park has pled guilty to assault causing bodily harm.

Counsel for Kody Brunelle, 18, ordered a pre-sentencing report Tuesday to be completed before his next appearance in provincial court on Feb. 25, when an agreed statement of facts will be read into the record.

An additional charge of failing to appear in court was withdrawn as a result of the guilty plea to the more serious charge.

The two brawls occurred on June 14 and 21. The latter was caught on video and widely circulated on social media, showing a group of several young people tackling an individual to the ground while punching and kicking him repeatedly. One of the assailants appears to be holding a blunt object.

The altercation resulted in several injuries, including a few that required surgery, although none of them were life-threatening, police said at the time of the arrests.

They also emphasized the “video evidence captures only a portion of an occurrence.”

In total, police laid 25 charges among 14 people in relation to the incident, including assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence.

As the sole accused who was an adult at the time of his arrest, only Brunelle can be identified by name under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
