Frances Miller, celebrating her 90th birthday on Oct. 13, clutches flowers similar to the ones she presented to the Duchess of Cambridge in Calgary in the summer of 2011.

Eight years ago on July 7, 2011, Frances Miller stood on the runway at Calgary International Airport among many dignitaries and presented the Duchess of Cambridge with flowers.

On Saturday Miller was celebrating her 90th birthday at a come-and-go tea and held some flowers similar to the ones she gave to the Duchess.

Many years ago Miller, as a nine-year-old, was chosen to give flowers to Queen Elizabeth (later to become known as the Queen Mother) in 1939. The royal train had been scheduled to stop in Walsh and Miller stood on the platform clutching a bouquet of red roses to present to the queen. The train however did not stop.

About 72 years after that event, publication of her story in the News and intervention on a number of levels (including by a News reporter) Miller was asked to give the Duchess a bouquet of red roses.
