Hounds get to second round

By Medicine Hat News on February 29, 2020.

The South East Athletic Club Tigers rode a second-period scoring surge to a series-clinching 3-2 victory over the Airdrie Xtreme in a win-or-go-home Game 3 on the road Friday.

The Tigers scored 30 seconds apart to flip a one-goal lead in Medicine Hat’s favour, then added the eventual game-winner in the third to send SEAC to the second round of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League’s post-season.

Airdrie’s Cayden Hartnell scored early to give the Xtreme a lead after 20 minutes, but the Tigers pushed back halfway through the second then stole away the lead 30 seconds later.

Medicine Hat added some insurance for Medicine Hat on an early power play in the third, but Jayden Gallant mustered a response for the Xtreme a few minutes later to keep the pressure on entering the dying minutes of regulation, but Hat netminder Beck Boiteau shut the door to secure the series-clinching victory.

Tigers scoring statistics were unavailable by press time.

The Tigers (11-19-3) will now face the Red Deer Rebels (28-2-3) in the best-of-three Ram South Division final. The Rebels finished the regular season atop the Ram South and swept the Lethbridge Golden Hawks in the first round.
