The Medicine Hat Mavericks stayed red hot Monday night, winning their sixth straight in beating the Brooks Bombers 5-2 at Athletic Park.
Brooks got on the board early, with Liam Shibata knocking in Damian Rodriguez with a single in the top half of the first.
Medicine Hat got the run back in the second on a double from catcher Reed Odland, scoring Colton Wright who doubled earlier in the inning.
Brooks struck again in the top of the sixth on a single from Zach Lehman, scoring Bryce O’Farrell.
Medicine Hat struck right back on a three-run homer from Colton Wright. Nolan Rattai and Zack Gray scored on the home run, which gave the Mavs a 4-2 lead.
The home team added an insurance run in the seventh on a single from Louie Canjura, scoring David Salgueiro.
Jaymon Cervantes started for the Mavs, throwing 5 1/3 innings and giving up two earned runs on nine hits, while striking out five and walking two.
Wright led the Mavs at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Salgueiro added three hits of his own and walked once as the leadoff hitter.
Brooks outhit the Mavs 11-10, and made just one error on the night compared Medicine Hat’s two miscues.
The Mavericks are on the road today in Lethbridge before coming home to host Okotoks Wednesday and Thursday.
