It was a tough first night of 4A South Zone basketball playoffs for Hat High Wednesday.

Both on the road, the Mohawks and Kwahommies lost their opening matchups and will need to regroup in the consolation side.

The Mohawks boys fell 85-64 to LCI and will now take on Winston Churchill in a bronze quarter-final at the University of Lethbridge.

The Kwahommies girls fell 73-58 at Cardston and will await their opponent in a Friday bronze semifinal.

Both Hat teams have host berths to provincials next week.

The junior teams also fell earlier in the week, with Medicine Hat’s girls dropping an 87-51 semifinal at LCI Tuesday and the boys falling 90-64 at LCI Monday.
