The Medicine Hat Cubs were on the wrong end of one of the worst beatdowns in Heritage Junior B Hockey League playoff history.

At the Spray Lakes Family Sports Centre in Cochrane, the host Generals obliterated the Cubs 17-0 in the first game of their best-of-three series.

The Generals’ Twitter account reported that shots on goal were 70-20. The score was 8-0 through one period and 13-0 heading into the third.

Cochrane also reported that Jarod Domingo had a hat trick and Knute Loe earned the shutout for the home team, which went 24-11-1 in the regular season, one point shy of top spot in the Southern Division but third behind both Coaldale and Okotoks.

Medicine Hat, 12-22-2 and last in the six-team division, returns home with their season on the line Saturday, 7:45 p.m. at the Kinplex.

If necessary the third game of the series would be Sunday in Cochrane.
