It was a nail-biter Friday night as the Medicine Hat College women’s basketball team took on the SAIT Trojans on home court.

After falling to an early deficit, the Rattlers were able to come back and establish a lead they carried into the fourth quarter. The Trojans stormed back during the final frame, and the Rattlers were forced to nail a three-point shot with 10 seconds left to force an extra frame. The Trojans established an early lead in overtime, and the Rattlers missed a buzzer-beater and fell 70-68.

“SAIT is a good team, and I don’t think they did anything tonight that surprised anyone,” said Rattlers head coach Clayton Nielsen. “They were a very good team last year and they’re a very well coached team with good players. They pushed the pace and forced us to play their game. It was a close game, but they came out on top.”

Kendell Kuntz led the team with 15 points, while Kennedy Werre posted 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Nielsen says he thought the team put up a good effort, but wants to see them playing their game.

“I want to play fast, I want to play quick,” he said. “Hitting clutch shots like we saw is great, but I want to play from ahead.

“We’re a good team, and there’s still plenty of basketball left to play. We just need to push our style of game.”

The Rattlers women now sit at a record of 6-1 on the year.

The Rattlers men also played host to the SAIT men’s team.
