Monarchs keep playoff hopes alive

The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs kept their season alive Sunday in Missoula.

Needing a victory to keep their chances of reaching the American Legion Baseball AA State Championship Tournament afloat, the Monarchs pulled off a 6-4 win over the Missoula Mavericks to improve to 5-12 on the season.

The Monarchs have one game left on the docket, Wednesday at Athletic Park against the Lethbridge Elks, hold the final playoff spot at 6-11. The Billings Scarlets are also still in the race, sitting two wins behind Medicine Hat but with four games remaining.

Ethan Ropcean had 3 RBIin a 1-for-5 effort Sunday, while Braydon Pudwell and Dylan Thompson and Will Sharpe all added an RBI of their own in the win.

Brady Close took the victory after holding the Mavericks to four runs on two hits through five compete innings of work.

The win follows up a 16-1 drubbing at the hands of Missoula on Saturday. Brendan Kuhn drove in Medicine Hat’s lone run of the day, while Ropcean took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits through the first four innings of the day.

Knights close out regular season with split

The Medicine Hat K of C Knights closed out their American Legion Baseball A season with a doubleheader split against the North Stars on Saturday in Havre.

The Knights clinched a 9-4 victory to open the set before falling in a 6-5 nailbiter to end the regular season at 18-10.

Keon Vereschagin and Ethan Bartram both knocked in 2 RBIto help guide the Knights to the opening victory. Wyatt Bergen took the victory after holding the North Stars to four runs on eight hits through five innings before Justin Bourassa stepped in to close out the game with two shutout innings.

Bergen chipped in with 3 RBI from the first base position in the second half of the doubleheader, going 2-for-4 from the dish, but the Knights fell just shy of a sweep. Bartram added Medicine Hat’s other 2 RBI.

Dylan Koenig took the loss after allowing six runs —three earned — on five hits through 3 and 1/3 innings. Travis Small closed out the game with 2 and 2/3 shutout innings.

The Knights enter the North District Class A Tournament in Havre on Thursday.

Majestics pick up three

The Medicine Hat Saamis Rotary Majestics picked up three straight victories in Calgary this weekend.

The Majestics kicked things off with a 5-0 win over the Calgary Giants on Saturday before picking up a 6-1 win over the Calgary Pirates that evening and closing out the weekend with another 13-3 win over the Giants Sunday.

Kayden Berndt took the first win over the Giants after holding them off the board in a three-hit effort over six innings. Chance Davis added 2 RBI in the win.

Lane Rempel took the mound against the Pirates and never gave it up, taking the win after allowing just one run on nine hits through seven innings while leading the team offensively with 3 RBI in the victory.

Adam Klick picked up the offence in Sunday’s landslide victory, cashing in 3 RBI to lead his team.

Tyran George earned the win after holding the Giants to three runs on five hits through a complete five inning game.
