A special season for the nearest junior A club to Medicine Hat continued Tuesday night as the Brooks Bandits, led by Medicine Hat’s Nick Prkusic, won the Alberta Junior Hockey League title for the second straight year.

Prkusic, the team’s captain, had two goals and an assist in a 4-1 win in Whitecourt, capping a four-game sweep and adding to the club’s dynasty.

“You spend six hours a day at the rink, and it’s all for that moment there,” Prkusic was quoted as saying in a press release sent early Wednesday morning.

Brooks has won four of the last six AJHL titles, went 51-5-4 in the regular season and only lost once in 13 playoff games so far. Next up is the Western Canada Cup, beginning April 29 in Penticton, B.C.
