While most high school baseball teams in southern Alberta have the holiday week off, Monsignor McCoy’s Colts decided to head south for some extra competition.

On Monday in Arizona the Colts swept a doubleheader against two teams from Scottsdale as part of their exhibition trip.

A 6-1 win over the Scottsdale Red Sox saw Devon Schneider allow just two hits in six innings, while walking two and striking out a half dozen. Will Sharpe went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Jack Suhai was 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

Things went even better in a 16-1 win over the Scottsdale Firebirds. Ethan Bartram’s inside-the-park home run and two triples from Caiden Anheliger paced the offence, while Ashtyn Street threw four innings of two-hit ball while striking out five. Bartram and Anheliger were each 3-for-4.

The week’s worth of games continued Tuesday against an academy team. The next local league games are next week.
