Usually Medicine Hat can hope for one team to do well at a provincial tournament per age group.

This year, one division will see two Hat teams vying for top spot.

In under-14 B ringette zone playdowns this past weekend in Rolling Hills, both the Blaze and Vortex teams won their way through to the Alberta championships.

Blaze was unbeatable. In their first game against the South Calgary Hericanes they won 4-1, getting two goals from Jaida Wallis, plus singles from Delaney Mastel and Preslee Stamer.

Their second game was a 6-0 wipeout of Bow View Rush. Hailey Orr registered the shutout for Medicine Hat, while Mastel scored four and Wallis the other two.

In another round robin pool, Vortex beat Calgary Staccato 6-1, the Cochrane Rockies 10-4 and tied Bow View Shock 6-6. They might have even beat Shock except that an injury with 3:17 to play resulted in the teams deciding to end the contest as a tie.

Both Hat teams move on to provincials March 17-19 in Calgary.
