A Medicine Hat couple competed in one of the biggest pickleball tournaments in the province and proved they’re real contenders.

Nancy and Ed Dick combined to take second place in their doubles division at the Lexus South Point Winter Classic in Edmonton Saturday, following up a gold medal for Nancy in women’s doubles play Friday.

Nancy Dick partnered with High River’s Louise Campbell, going unbeaten in the second-highest skill level group at the tournament. After their 2-0 (11-2, 11-0) win over Sherwood Park’s Frieda Vanherck and Toni Anctil in the final, the only question might have been if they could’ve won the top division, too.

Nancy and Ed were in the same skill level designation for their 22-team mixed doubles draw, but took an early loss in the event and had a long road to the final. They made it, thanks to a narrow 2-1 (11-5, 8-11, 12-10) semifinal win, but fell 2-0 (11-5, 11-3) to Vanherck and partner Jeff Whipple in the final.
