There’s a race for second and a race to stay out of last place, but Medicine Hat’s under-19 ringette team isn’t in either of them.
After another couple victories at the Kinplex Saturday, the Avalanche are comfortably in first in their Ringette Calgary League division.
Medicine Hat beat Calgary Northwest Surge 5-2 and 7-4 in the doubleheader on home ice, racheting up the offence against a team that was allowing an average of less than three goals per game entering the weekend.
Lauren Hughes scored twice in the first game, with Brooklyn Burzminski, Alexandra Stanke and Kelli Bowles adding singles to hand Surge its first regular season loss.
Pairs from Hughes and Bowles paced the Avs in the second half of the twin bill. Taylor Chase, Camryn Selwood and Jensen Wilk had the others.
Now 9-1, Medicine Hat is two points clear of a couple teams plus a game in hand. Surge then lost a third game in a row Sunday and are now 5-3-2, fifth in the division but two points back of second with a game in hand.
The Avalanche return to play Jan. 7.
Last Wednesday in under-10 action, the Chaos doubled up the Monsters 8-4. Only scorers from Chaos were reported; the News has chosen not to list any names unless scorers from both local teams are submitted.
