1917 ~ JEAN RASMUSSEN ~ 2018

Mrs. Jean Rasmussen of Red Deer and formerly of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Arne Rasmussen, passed away on Sunday, May 13th, 2018 at the age of 101 years. Jean leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Dietrich Gail (Bob) Livingstone of Sutton West, Ontario, and Dianne Ellen Rasmussen of Red Deer, Alberta; two grandchildren, Melanie (Grant) McAlpine and great grandson, Noah; and Shawn Livingstone; one brother, John Arie (Betty) Van Staalduine of Foremost; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Arne, Jean was predeceased by her parents, Marinus and Jenny Van Staalduine; five brothers, Neil (June), Richard, Evert, Jacob, B M Barney; and two sisters, Marie (George) Minor and Nellie (Orvel) Stovel. Jean was born and raised on the farm at Foremost and attended Neighbourview School. She helped out at harvest time with cooking at home and for several of the local families. At the age of 20, Jean moved to Medicine Hat and worked at Ogilvie Mills and Medicine Hat Laundry. Jean married Arne on May 10th, 1943 in Medicine Hat where they continued to reside and raise their family. She enjoyed bowling, baking, playing cards, gardening, and taking trips to Ontario to visit her daughter. Jean was not your typical 101-year-old, she remained in good health and was feisty right to the very end. Jean will be remembered by all who knew her with her absolute indomitable spirit and forthrightness of character and integrity. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Garth Price, beloved husband of Cheryl Price, on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 59 years. Garth also leaves to cherish his memory step-son, Calvin (Andrea) Martin; three granddaughters, Jade, Alivia, and Charlotte; mother-in-law, Fran Coffey; two brothers, Ray (Joan) Price and Rick Price (Jan Kline); brothers-in-law, Daryl Knowler and Peter Coffey; step sister-in-law, Jan (Dan) Holmedal; step brothers-in-law, Tom Coffey and Russ (Kelly) Coffey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Garth was predeceased by his parents, Al and Evelyn Price; sister, Donna-Ray Knowler; and fathers-in-law, Sonny Martin and Frank Coffey. Garth was born on November 27, 1958 in Medicine Hat and lived his entire life here. He grew up with a love for the outdoors…fishing with his family and friends was one of his favourite things to do. He was employed with CP Rail for 37 years before retiring five years ago. Garth had a great way of telling a story and would have everyone laughing by the end of his tale. He loved spending time with his family and especially loved spending time with his granddaughters. Garth always had to make sure everyone around him was taken care of before looking after himself; even till the end he was concerned that we would be ok. The Graveside Service will be held at HILLSIDE CEMETERY, 10th Avenue and Gershaw Drive SW, on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Ellen Mary Coulter, passed away peacefully at Masterpiece Southland Meadows in Medicine Hat on Saturday May 12, 2018, at the age of 73 years. Memories of Ellen will be cherished by her loving daughter, Stephanie (Wayne); very special and only granddaughter, Keerstyne and her beloved pet and companion, Ottis. Fedoruk, Walter William

,
August 20, 1933 – May 6, 2018,
aged 84 years, was born in the Shell River District of Manitoba to John and Mary Fedoruk (nee Labuke). He grew up with his two brothers and one sister in the Grandnarrows District of Manitoba where he attended school. After finishing school, he took a job at the Neil Mckinnon farm. This job was just down the road from another farm that he had to walk past on his way to work. This was the farm where Eileen lived with her parents and it wasn’t long before they met. Walter and Eileen were married on November 10, 1956 in Vancouver, B.C. where he worked as an Iron Worker Local 97. Their daughter was born while they were in Vancouver and in 1958 they moved their small family back to Saskatchewan where Walter continued to work and began farming with his father John. It was during these years that he and Eileen raised their growing family of five children.
Walter’s favorite work was farming but he also worked as an Iron Worker, Truck Driver, Heavy Equipment Operator and as an Oil Rig Driller. Other than farming, much of his work was during the winter months and kept him away from home. Come spring, he was ready to go back to the farm and his family. Later in life, when Walter semi-retired and moved back to To go full time, he continued to enjoy helping various farmers with their work. He also tilled gardens for friends but what he enjoyed most of all was getting into his truck and going for a drive in the countryside. He would end his drive with coffee and a good laugh with friends.
Walter is survived by his wife Eileen (nee Ruf); daughter Betty (Brent) Paley; sons David (Darlene), Tim, Chris (Ida), Lorne (Paula); thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary, and grandsons Jamie and Colin.
In keeping with Walters’ wishes, a family graveside service will be held at a later date. While surrounded by his loving family, Mr. John Wagenaar, beloved husband of Florence, was peacefully called home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the age of 69 years. Julia Stock, beloved wife of the late Robert Stock, passed away on Saturday, May 12th, 2018 at the age of 92 years and 7 months in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Julia leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Marlene (Archie) Sackman, Gloria (Ross) Fitzpatrick and Bev (Helmut) Henschke; five grandchildren, Laralie Fitzpatrick, Troy (Sandra) Fitzpatrick, Cindy Lutz, Jennifer Henschke and Bob Henschke; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Austen Fitzpatrick; one brother-in-law, Edward Stock; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her parents, Lukas and Pauline Staudt; and four sisters, two brothers and their spouses. Julia was born in Portland, Oregon, USA on October 18th, 1925 and came to Canada with her parents in 1928 at the age of 3 years. They settled in the Kuest, Saskatchewan area. She married her soul mate, Robert Stock, on November 7th, 1944 and together they raised three daughters and farmed at Richmound until 1978 when they moved to Medicine Hat. Family was the most important thing to Julia. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much, they meant the world to her. Julia enjoyed visiting and "feeding" her family and friends, playing cards, curling, and crocheting. Julia was a faithful, dedicated worshipper at Victory Lutheran Church. Her family would like to thank the nursing staff on 5West and 5East, Dr. Jonker, and the Palliative Care doctors for the wonderful, compassionate care they gave to our family and mom during her hospital care. KUNZ, Mary

August 21, 1918 – April 18, 2018
Mary Anne Kunz of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Kasper Kunz, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, at the age of 99 years. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Janice (Cliff) Hartman of Calgary, Alberta, Margaret (Jim) Adamson of Seagrave, Ontario and Jim (Annette) Kunz of Calgary; eight grandchildren, Greg (Carolyn) Hartman, Michelle (Rick) Ravanello, Daniel (Cindy) Adamson, Sarah Adamson, Kayla Kunz, Nathan Kunz, Nicole (Derek) Fandrick and Jaclyne Kunz; and seven great grandchildren, one sister Cecile Hunt of Sarnia, Ontario and one brother-in-law John Kunz of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Marianne Buscholl; her husband Kasper on May 10, 1991; one son Larry on March 28, 2002; four sisters Elizabeth Bachmeier, Rose Buscholl, Sr. Florentine, Matilda Schill, and her brother Frank Buscholl. Kasper and Mary farmed in the Richmound, Saskatchewan area for many years and retired to Medicine Hat in 1972. They periodically travelled with friends and visited such places as Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and the Canadian Maritimes. They also enjoyed bowling and dancing. Mary loved to garden (especially her flowers), read, play cards, bake, cook; and made many afghans and quilts in her younger years. She was a long-time member of the Catholic Women’s League. The family would like to thank the staff at Meadow Ridge Seniors Village for the excellent care, and gentle kindness, she received throughout her stay especially in her final hours. MAYER

Shirley Mayer of Medicine Hat, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the age of 79 years, beloved wife of the late Lionel Mayer. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Dean (Pam) Mayer, Tim Mayer, and Julie (Marc) Piche; six grandchildren, Steven Mayer, Angela (Chris) Clarke, Kyle Mayer, Shelby (Jesse) Denman, Josianne (Brad) van Middlekoop, and Stephan Piche; four great grandchildren, Oliver Thomas, Elisabeth Amelia, Adalyn Mae, and Elliot Lisette. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Lionel on October 21, 2017, and her parents John and Helen Sulz. Shirley was born in Medicine Hat but lived on the family farm South of Irvine, Alberta. When she was about 15 years old, lightning struck their farm house and burned it to the ground. They lost everything they had. Shirley stayed at her cousin Clairie’s farm with her parents until she finished grade 9 and10 in Irvine. The family then moved into Medicine Hat and stayed in the family’s Grandparents home on Dominion Street. She finished her schooling in Medicine Hat and worked in a retail store for a short time. When Shirley married Lionel, they moved into a basement suite for a short time, and later moved back into the Sulz Grandparent house on Dominion Street, until they purchased their own house on Braemar Street. That was where they raised their children for most of their childhood. As with many women of the time, Shirley enjoyed being a housewife where she took great care of the children, the house and the yard. Shirley loved her Tiger Hockey having season tickets for the better part of 30 years, until she no longer could navigate the stairs in the Old Arena. Mom was also an early gamer, playing many hours of card games on the first Nintendo Game console!! The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bob Church officiating. A private family interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. It is with heavy hearts the family of Shirley Anne (Shanne) Ziebart, announce her passing on Friday, May 11, 2018, at the age of 83 years. Shirley Anne was born in Medicine Hat on April 22, 1935, a daughter to Stanley and Kathleen Knight. She attended Connaught School and graduated from Alexandra High School. She married Pius ‘Zeke’ Ziebart and their marriage was blessed with the births of six children. Once the kids were in school she started working in the bank where she would spend the next 25 years. Throughout her years she enjoyed travelling and golf (2 holes in 1), reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Shirley Anne was an avid Tiger’s fan and rarely missed a game. Her memory will be cherished in the hearts of her children, Janet (James) Zeller, Kate Ziebart, Donna (Richard) Dworschak and Beth (Robert) Leentvaar; and grandchildren: Alicia Ziebart (Christof) and Jeremy Ziebart (Terilyn); Nick (De Andra) Zeller and their daughter, Austyn, Mitch (Blythe) Zeller and Erin Zeller (Mark); Kris Dworschak (Erin), Craig Dworschak (Emily); Derek Leentvaar (Celeste) and Emily Leentvaar, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
