1924 ~ ART STREGGER ~ 2018 Arthur “Art” Roy Stregger of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Pat Stregger, passed away on Tuesday, April 24th, 2018 at the age of 94 years. Art leaves to cherish his memory his children, Debbie Linfoot-McLeod (Ron McLeod), Joan (Jim) Lysyk, Brenda (Marlin) Kristiansen, Ellie (Barry) Williams and Bill Stregger; by his grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother; two sisters; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his wife, Bernice “Pat” Stregger; one daughter, Roberta Stregger; his son-in-law, Doug Linfoot; grandson-in-law, Mark Schofield; great grandson, Ashlynd Kristiansen; his parents, Christopher and Pauline Stregger; three brothers; and two sisters. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Good Samaritans, Medicine Hat Regional Hospital 5 West Sub Station and Dr. Jeffrey Bratvold for all they have done in looking after Art. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at HOLY FAMILY PARISH, 1451 Strachan Road SE, on Friday, April 27th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Philip Le, celebrant. Interment will take place at a later date. 1941 ~ VIOLET “MARION” SEARS ~ 2018 Marion Sears of Medicine Hat, Alberta, beloved wife of the late Haddon Sears, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2018, after her valiant struggle with cancer. Marion was born on June 5, 1941 in Empress, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm which taught her self-reliance and grew her love of the outdoors. She attended her early schooling in Bindloss and completed her education in Medicine Hat. Once graduating from Nursing School in Calgary in 1960 she began the career that she loved. It was her passion to care for others and she prided herself on her career. In her later years, the couple managed an apartment complex and all the grandchildren have fond memories of working for them on the weekends for some spending money. During their retirement, they loved camping, fishing, gardening, and bird watching. She had an artistic flair which included painting, sketching, needle work, sewing, making bread, and spending time with her ever-growing family. She found Jesus in the summer of 2004 and was his faithful servant to the end. Marion was a mother to Corina Leigh (Larry), Kevin Cummins (Marina), and Valerie MacVicar (Kevin). A beloved Grandma to many and her greatest joy was watching her great grandchildren. who called her Nanny, run and play. She is the one and only sister to Bill Bicknell (Lorna), Keith Bicknell (Gail), and Ken Bicknell (Clarice). She was predeceased by her husband, Grover Haddon Sears; and her parents, Frank and Violet Bicknell. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice, Meadow Ridge and 5West at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for the excellent care they have provided. The Funeral Celebration will be held at Life Church, 2348 Dunmore Road SE, on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Beau Zilinski officiating. BAIER Joseph John Baier, beloved husband of Anne Baier of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the age of 93 years. He also leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Robyn (Neil) Miller of Spruce Grove; two grandchildren, Kiel (Mona) Miller of Vancouver, and Laura Miller (fiancé Andrew Misle) of Edmonton; one brother, George (Diane) Baier of Medicine Hat; two sisters, Annie (Gene) Swain of Calgary, and Betty (Chuck) Streifel of Victoria, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Baier, and three brothers, Pete, Nick and ‘Koon’. A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff on 5 W for the care and compassion shown to Joe during his stay at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly celebrant. Officers and members of the Redcliff Legion, Branch #6 will conduct a poppy service for their departed comrade. LES KOEHLE 1947 ~ 2018
Mr. Leslie ‘Les’ Koehle, beloved husband of Linda of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the age of 70 years. Les was born in Vancouver on May 27, 1947 and grew up in Castlegar where he received his schooling. As a young man, he joined the RCMP and served on the force for 13 years. With his policing background, Les started and operated Norsask Security, an alarm monitoring system which was first of its kind. He later sold the company and began working full-time for Key Lake Mines; first as a safety officer, then into the human resources department before becoming a gold mining foreman. While working as a foreman he was stationed 14,000 feet on a mountain in Kyrgyzstan for a number of years. Les was an extremely dedicated employee whose work ethic was unmatched. He would be the first to lend a helping hand for those in need. In 2002, Les and Linda returned from Kyrgyzstan and in 2005 Les suffered a stroke which forced him into retirement. Les will be remembered by his wife of 50 years, Linda; a daughter, Kerry (Bill) Bill and their children, Kailie and Jordan; a son, Randall Koehle (Monelle Reich) and his two girls, Bayleigh and Devan. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Daisy Koehle. MACKINTOSH, GEORGE WRIGHT George Wright Mackintosh, formerly of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years in Edmonton, AB on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
George was born on November 14, 1921, in Edmonton, the son of Mabel and George Mackintosh. As the son of the Edmonton Journal’s longtime sports editor, George was consumed by sports, both as a fan and an athlete. An athlete, who excelled in track and field and lacrosse, he was also a passionate fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos. Until the very end, he subscribed to the Edmonton Journal and read the sports pages every day.
A graduate of Victoria Composite High School, George received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and signed up with the RCAF in 1942, serving the duration of the Second World War in England as a radar operator.
A determined bachelor, George was very much his own person, always true to himself. He enjoyed a lifelong career as a land agent in Calgary and Medicine Hat. During his career, he loved conversations with farmers and their families. He also possessed a formidable knowledge of Alberta’s geography and could describe the various markers of many backroads, including the ones which were “hardtops.”
He was appreciated by all who knew him for his gentle sense of humour and ability to draw people out.
George will be greatly missed by his nephew, Ian Stewart and his wife, Judy Piercey of Edmonton; and his nephew, Sandy Stewart, his wife Darlene Leavitt and sons Callum and Andrew of North Saanich, BC. He was predeceased by his sister, Shelia Stewart; and brother-in-law, Neil Stewart.
Our family extends deepest gratitude to the compassionate care provided by the staff of Extendicare Holyrood in the past two and half years since Uncle George moved back to Edmonton from Medicine Hat.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. at Northern Lights Cemetery, 15203 – 156 Street, Edmonton with a Memorial Service to follow at 4 p.m. at Park Memorial Reception Centre, 11015 – 101 Street, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Alberta, 9618 – 101 A Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 0C7.
