1925 ~ MURIEL ROGERS ~ 2017

Muriel Louise Rogers of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Rogers, passed away on Friday, January 13th, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Muriel leaves to cherish her memory her twin sister, Margaret Hobbs of Medicine Hat; two nieces, Kathryn (Kevin) Friesen of Medicine Hat and Sharon (Ron) Henschel of Red Deer; three nephews, Harold (Sharon) Millie of Regina, Richard (Judi) Millie of Edmonton and David (Carole) Millie of Sceptre, Saskatchewan and extended family. Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Bill; and her parents, Dougall and Ida Hunter. Muriel was born on September 20th, 1925 on the farm at Climax, Saskatchewan. In 1948 she began her teaching career, retiring in 1980. Throughout her life, Muriel was an avid volunteer with numerous organizations. She was given the Medicine Hat Humanitarian award in 2004. Muriel enjoyed gardening, bridge and the company of her dear friends and family who will miss her greatly. The Funeral Service will be held at FIFTH AVENUE MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH, 476 – 4th Street SE, on Friday, January 20th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend David Pollard officiating. 1930 – 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) Lee Van Buskirk, announces his passing after a brief illness and while surrounded by his family at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, January 16, 2017, at the age of 87 years. Bill leaves to cherish his memory four children, Lee (Susan) Van Buskirk, Bill (Venyce) Van Buskirk, Dick (Debbie) Van Buskirk and Pat (Shelly) Van Buskirk; 14 grandchildren, Jessica Van Buskirk, Shannon Van Buskirk, Josh (Bethanie) Van Buskirk, Laura (Josh) Sifuentes, Aaron Van Buskirk, Anna Van Buskirk, Brooke (Andrew) Moss, Derk (Sheryden) Anderson, Jason Van Buskirk, Jennifer (Dale) Howe, Shontel (Nick) Lessard, Jason (Aleesha) Smith, Christine (Mike) Westland and Cassidy Van Buskirk; 16 great-grandchildren, Taytum, Preston and Daphnie Van Buskirk, Micah and Kyra Sifuentes, Brianna Buk, Addyson, Quinn and Hallie Swasey, Ryder and Brekkyn Van Buskirk, Kenzie Howe, Shelby Lessard, Haven and Nova Smith and Burtyn Westland. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Lee Edward and Dorothy Alice Van Buskirk; granddaughter, Emalee Jane Van Buskirk and great-grandchildren, Zoey Swasey and Parker Moss. Bill Van Buskirk was born January 7, 1930 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where he spent his younger years. Bill attended Riverside School and Alexandra High School. Following high school, he enlisted and attended military training at the Canadian Forces Base Borden, Ontario. Following his military training he returned to Medicine Hat to work for Lake of the Woods Milling Company. After several years working in Medicine Hat, Bill moved to Lethbridge, Alberta and worked up to his retirement for Diversey/Molson Corp. in 1993. Bill was baptized and confirmed at St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Medicine Hat. He later attended St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in Lethbridge. Bill had a passion for baseball, hockey and golf for many years. He started playing as a pitcher for the Southern Alberta Regiment Flyers in the Southern Alberta Baseball leagues from 1945 through to the early 1950’s. He also played hockey for several leagues in Lethbridge. Bill was a member of the Lethbridge Country Club for many years. He continued to golf following his retirement and volunteered in preparation of the Lethbridge Country Club History book. He was also a longtime member and Past President of the Lethbridge Kinsmen Club. Bill was a kind, gentle and thoughtful father, grandfather and friend. He loved being with his family and being involved in their interests. He will be greatly missed. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 635 – 4th Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Canon Gene Packwood officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a luncheon thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. ENSLEN

Emma Irene Enslen of Medicine Hat passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the age of 92 years, beloved wife of the late William Enslen. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Shirley (Ken) Pattison of Eckville, Lester (Linda) Enslen of Medicine Hat, Ken (Debbie) Enslen of Schuler and Miriam (Graham) Kern of Bismark, North Dakota; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Vivian Stuber, Adeline Stuber, Pauline Stuber and Alice (Herb) Sackmann; one brother-in-law, Daniel Enslen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Adam and Matilda Stuber; her loving husband, William on April 4, 2015; one loving daughter, Juliann (Charlie) Brooks; five brothers, Emil, Edward (in infancy), John, Fred, and Arthur Stuber and great granddaughters, Catie, Jana and Dara Bott; parents-in-law, George and Maria Enslen, and other in-laws, Jack and Ella Enslen, Anna Marie (Stockburger) Jauk, John and Edna Enslen, Violet Enslen, Ralph and Emma Mogck, Leo George Enslen, Doug and Leah Stringer, and Elmer and Tillie Anderst. Mom grew up on a farm in the Wisdom area with her parents, Adam J. and Matilda Stuber. She had five older brothers, Mom was the youngest and the only girl. She attended Little Plume School for nine years and was an excellent student. Mom married William Enslen of Schuler in 1942 and raised a family of five children. They enjoyed seventy three years of marriage as they farmed together and retired to Medicine Hat in 1970. Mom was a hard worker both inside and out on the farm. She had a huge garden, many beautiful flowers, and was an extremely good cook and baker. While mom was shy in nature, she had lots of company and was hospitable with everyone. She canned dozens of jars of fruit , sausage and sauerkraut, loved quilting, and did much sewing for her family. Mom enjoyed going shopping and had a good eye for fabric as well as ready made items. A big thank you to the staff at Haven View for their compassionate care of our mom during her stay there. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Larry Enslen officiating. HAUCK

It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to Matt Hauck, beloved husband of the late Rose Marie “Rose” Hauck, who passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Monday, January 16, 2017, at the age of 89 years. His memory will be forever treasured in our hearts and sadly missed by his six children, Sandy (Jim) Schafer, Mervin Hauck (Arno), Nancy (Lyndon) Reinhardt, Randy (Sharla) Hauck, Wally Hauck, and Vance (Roxanne) Hauck; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, George Hauck; two sisters, Marion (Felix) Lutz and Catherine (Bert) Besplug. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth Hauck; his wife, Rose on July 11, 2015; four brothers, Tony, Bill, Leonard and Joe Hauck and one sister, Betty Galecki.
Matt was raised on the family farm near Mendham, Saskatchewan. He married the love of his life, Rose Marie Scherger and moved to Odessa, Saskatchewan where he managed the Co-op Bulk Fuels. In 1969, they moved their family to Medicine Hat, where they raised their six children. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping and playing cards. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to The Medicine Hat Villa, Home Care, 4 West and Palliative Care for the exceptional care, kindness, compassion and comforting words.
Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. KURTZ

Helen Marjorie Kurtz (Nicholson) passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 with her family by her side, at the age of 61 years, beloved wife of Barry Kurtz of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory her children, Kyle (Lauren Killian) and their children, Aria, Hayden and Dexter; Braden (Joyce Peacock); Christina (Kenneth) Ryan and their children, Chase, Easton and Harper; and Mitchell; her sister, Marion McRoberts; two sisters-in-law, Lyndell (Terry) Brekko and Michele (Barry) Bitz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Marjorie Nicholson and her brother, Michael.
Helen was born in Medicine Hat to Michael and Marjorie Nicholson on February 26, 1955. She grew up on a farm near Manyberries. She went to school in Manyberries until her final year, graduating from Medicine Hat High School. Helen started out working as a telephone operator for AGT. On May 29, 1981, she and Barry were married and Helen decided to be a stay at home mom. Life revolved around spending time with her family and close friends.
