DONNA SMITH

Donna Smith (nee Roll) peacefully passed away from cancer on Sunday, January 8, 2017 in Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 73 years. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Murray (Shelley) Roll and Melaine Kemp (Bill Miller); her sisters Sharon (Don) Studds and Kathryn Roll (Barry Ellis) and her grandson, Kyle Getz. Donna was predeceased by her father, Jacob Adam Roll and her mother, Kathleen Roll (nee Kennedy).
Mom loved us dearly, enjoyed laughing and appreciated the simple things. She found inspiration and contentment in gardening, sewing, reading, recipes and cooking. Not only was she creative but she loved to sing and dance. In later years, mom discovered that she enjoyed using tools to repurpose things, often expressing that she would have pursued carpentry had that been an option for women in those times.
Mom cherished her privacy but was known for her kindness, compassion and empathy for others. She was a strong believer in human rights and recently began wearing a safety pin as an expression of support for the vulnerable. She loved hugs and would give them properly, the full wraparound rib-crushing kind. Please help us celebrate mom’s life by sharing hugs!
Our family wishes to gratefully recognize the support from her cancer care team through her journey and to the palliative care team for affording her dignity and grace in her final days. Thank you also to her kind friends and neighbours in Maranatha Villa.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral. Memorial donations may be made in Donna’s name to CMHA Alberta Southeast Region. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to:pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Donna Smith, or visit http://www.pattisonfuneralhome.com and leave a message of condolence.

GOOD

Frances Margaret Good passed away at the age of 91, on Monday, January 9, 2017 with her daughters by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Harvey Good. She was predeceased by her parents John & Elizabeth Hausauer, one son, Tom in l988; two brothers Cecil Hausauer and Jim Hausauer; one brother-in-law, Art Wittke and one sister-in-law, Gladys (John) Elliott.
Frances (nee Hausauer) was raised just south of Irvine and in Irvine with her sister Sophie and brothers Cecil & Jim. Sophie and Mom often sang and they yodeled, (or at least Mom said they tried!). She finished high school in l945, then went to Normal School, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Central Alberta and then in Irvine. She married the love of her life, Harvey Good in June 1948, and together they raised 4 children. They celebrated their 67 years anniversary in 2015. Harvey & Frances lived south of Irvine for 22 years, raising Hereford cattle. They later purchased and moved to a ranch south of Medicine Hat. Here they raised Hereford cattle and eventually Black Angus cattle. Mom was always a part of the ranch, not always in the field, but in the background, knowing exactly what was going on. Mom made it look easy, she always had hot meals ready to accommodate Dad’s long work days. Mom and Dad helped with the organizing of the first Elkwater Rodeo. She was a member of the Irvine and Medicine Hat Curling Clubs and the Connaught Golf Club. They both like to curl, play cards, golf, bowl and loved to dance! She loved to spend time with her grandchildren in their younger years, took them golfing, and of course they could drive the golf cart! She was a loving wife, mother and Granny!
