1940 ~ WILLIAM SMITH ~ 2017 William (Porky) Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on Monday, January 2, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory two children, his daughter Cinimin Smith, his son Wryan (Corlinda) Smith and his two grandchildren Gavin and Shayla Smith. He also leaves behind his wife Cory Smith of Edmonton, Alberta. Porky also leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Alan (Gay) Smith, and two sisters, Gwen Smith (Andy Burns), Ona (Ed) Bilan and one brother by heart, Mike Hofer jr, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Porky always had a special bond with his niece Christie Ruhr (Jonesy). Porky was predeceased by his parents Mathew and Lydia Smith, nee Baumbach, and four brothers; Bob (Beryl) Smith, Larry (Tootsie) Smith, Darel Smith and Cyril Smith. Porky was born June 27, 1940 in Ottawa, Ontario. He started work at a young age, and worked in various occupations throughout his life, but his passion was the food industry. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends, spending time with his grandchildren whenever he could, road trips, camping, feeding his wild pets, cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and time spent fishing with Mike and the guys. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Team, Home Care, Dr Harrison, Dr Alphin and their staff. ALAN DAVID JOHNSON April 20, 1946 – January 6, 2017
With his family by his side, Alan David Johnson, was taken to his heavenly home on the evening of January 6, 2017.
Alan is predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Johnson; his brother, Gordon Johnson; and his granddaughter, Kylie Dosko.
Alan is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 50 years, Glenda; his children: Alanet (Ray) Clayton, Audrey (Kent) Pickett, Rae Johnson, Amber (Keith) Dosko, Annetta (Jason) Labash, Andrea (Kurtis) Stinson, and Ailyn (Matthew) Clayton; his grandchildren: Kayla (Braden) Baker, Tyson Boehmer; Amanda and Jessica Warner; Sariah, Cassandra, and Joshua Dosko; Taylor, Paityn, and Bretton Labash; Zander and Maraya Stinson; Bayly, Anna-Marie, Mason, and Ryder Clayton; and three great grandchildren, Scotlyn and Kennedy Baker, and Jax Friess.
Alan retired at the age of 63, after a 25-year career with the Coop Oil Refinery in Regina, Saskatchewan. In 2014, Alan and Glenda moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta and purchased their retirement home.
Alan’s greatest joys in life were his family, the gospel, and serving in the church. He was always there to help anyone in need and has touched the lives of numerous individuals with his humble service.
He took great pride in his gardening and loved to share the fruits of his labours with those around him. His family never left his house empty handed. He also enjoyed preparing feasts for his family and friends and will always be remembered for his famous fried chicken and fantastic holiday dinners.
Alan will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family and friends. His family takes great comfort in knowing that they will one day be reunited with him, and until that day, he will be watching over them. Mrs. Isabelle Ann Deringer passed away at the Riverview Care Centre on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Isabelle was born on June 28, 1931 in Medicine Hat to Rudolph and Ida Schlenker. She married, Wendel J. Deringer in Medicine Hat on November 22, 1952. Isabelle worked as a bank teller for 30 years while raising her family. She believed that anything worth doing was to do it right. Isabelle honoured her father and mother and always put her children first. She took an active role in raising her granddaughter, Jenna and loved to bake and cook for her family. Isabelle’s greatest achievement was being a mother and grandmother. She loved animals but her favorite was her Shih Tzu dog, Mickey. Isabelle’s memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of her children, Keith (Brenda) Deringer of Camrose and Debra Deringer (Tim Scory) of Medicine Hat; granddaughters, Kara and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Sydney. She was predeceased by her parents, Rudolph & Ida Schlenker; husband, Wendel Deringer and brother, Aevult (Eileen) Schlenker. Theise – Judith Ann Theise (Knutson) beloved wife of Ron Theise leaves to cherish her memory two children Robin (Marla) Theise and Laurel-Lee (David) Mcmenemy; one grandchild Jennica (Matthew) Colette; three great grandchildren; Griffin, Alexander, Daisy; two adopted grandchildren, Ethan and Becky; one sister, Iris Schweeder; one brother, Marty Knutson, and two nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Victor and Irene Knutson; uncles Bruce, Howard, Dale, Freemont, Jack, Ed; aunt, Silvia; brother In-law, Bob. Judy was born in Medicine Hat and was raised in her parent’s general store in Iddesleigh. She attended Medicine Hat High School, then college, and continued her education at Lethbridge University. She married Ron Theise on February 8, 1969 at Iddesleigh and they made their home there. In the following years, they moved to Jenner and raised a family of their own. During her time in Jenner, Judy was a Sunday School Teacher, worked at Jenner Post Office and Jenner Sales and Service. She also managed the Jenner Hotel and Prairie Dust Motel as well as writing a humor column for the Prairie Post. In 1981, Ron and Judy bought the family farm which they operated for the next 34 years. She was always busy and enjoyed spending spare time at the cabin at Suffern Lake, Saskatchewan. A visitation will held from 2:00 PM – 4.00 PM on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Thom’s Funeral Home and Reception Centre in Duchess, family and friends are welcome. A Memorial Service will be held in the Lutheran Church in Iddesleigh in the spring and the date will be made available once finalized. McLEOD William "Bill" James McLeod of Redcliff passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the age of 94 years, beloved husband of the late Sonia McLeod. Neil Armstrong Slimmon, beloved husband of the late Ethel Slimmon, passed away peacefully at home near Etzikom on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the age of 86 years.

Neil is lovingly remembered by his two daughters Carol (David) Lee, Shelly (Doug) Phillips and son-in-law Tom (Glenda) Lee all of the Etzikom area. His loving grandchildren Corrie (Corey) Welling; Brenda Lee and her children Rylee (Nick Belland) Heller and Kasey (Wade Sturtevant) Heller; Robert (Jenny) Lee and their children Jace and Cheyenne Lee; Shannon, Cole and Kourtney Pozdnekoff. He is also survived by his sister Elaine Dale of Winnipeg, Manitoba, sister-in-law Lillian Slimmon of Shoal Lake, Manitoba, brother-in-law Harold (Laura) Wesley of Lethbridge and sister-in-law Joyce Wesley of Calgary. He also leaves to cherish his memory his many special nieces and nephews and cousins in Alberta and Manitoba, he loved them all.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Ethel May Slimmon; daughter Debbie Lee; parents James and Elsie Slimmon; brothers Arnold (Gretta) Slimmon, Merrill Slimmon, Laverne (Betty) Slimmon and Keith (Loretta) Slimmon; sister Myra (Frank) Preston; brother-in-law Alan Dale; Ethel's parents Paul and Eldora Wesley; sisters-in-law Bernice (Don) Meldrum, Grace (Roy) Ondrik; brothers-in-law Lenard Wesley, Cecil (Bea) Wesley and Larry Wesley.
Neil was born on June 26, 1930 in the Municipality of Byrtle Manitoba, son of James and Elsie Slimmon. He grew up on the family farm with five brothers and two sisters. Neil came to Alberta in the spring of 1949 and began working in the Wrentham Area. He married Ethel May Wesley on June 26, 1950. In 1958, Neil started as an Elevator Manager for Searle Grain. His first elevator was in Craigmyle, Alberta, moving to Etzikom in 1962 as Elevator Manager for Searle Grain (later known as Alberta Wheat Pool), a very successful career that spanned more than thirty years. Neil and Ethel also purchased a farm in 1974, which they both loved very much. They worked together in the elevator and on the farm. They retired to the farm in 1992. Neil was never one to sit still for too long. He always needed something to do. After they sold the farm and Ethel passed away in 2008, he needed something to do. He started helping his friends at the Mayfield Colony and helped them right up until his passing. He loved helping them run tractor, build, move machinery, butcher, anything, he enjoyed their company and was Uncle Neil to most on the colony. He also worked as a relief rural delivery driver for Alison Jetter during recent years, something he loved to do as well.
Neil made lifelong friends wherever he went. He made friends with people of all ages. He was a very strong, caring, helpful man. He would do anything for anyone.
Neil was so honoured and deeply touched by his family and friends who surprised him with a party on his eighty sixth birthday. It was a very special day for him.
His family was everything to him. He was always there for help and support, no matter what, right up to his last days. He made a big turkey dinner on New Years Day 2017 for his family at his home.
Dad's passing has left a huge hole in our hearts and lives. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
