FLORENCE BOETTCHER

It is with so much sadness that we share the loss, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 6, 2016 of our mom, wife, nanny and great grandma, Florence Ruth Boettcher. Florence lived for 84 years, and she was the best. Born January 12, 1932 in Medicine Hat, Florence grew up in Horsham, Saskatchewan, attending the Green Corn School. On April 23, 1952, she married Bill Boettcher and they started their life together on the farm in Schuler, AB, later moving into Medicine Hat where she resided with her family ever since. Florence was predeceased by her parents, John and Hilda Fischer; and two sisters, Theola Fischer and Violet Maier. Florence is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Boettcher of Medicine Hat; two daughters, Sandi (Mark) Kowalko of Calgary and Connie Boettcher (Robert Pountney) of Lacombe, Alberta; ten grandchildren, Cory Copeland, Colette (Brad) Ross, Crystal (Brandon) Gaudio, Caleb (Triana) Kowalko, Lukas Kowalko, Hannah Kowalko, Danyel Inglangasuk Kowalko, Simeon Kowalko, Jackie Whitford and Matthew Christiansen; five great grandchildren, Anthony, Kalan, Keenan, Lachlan and Isla; one brother, Elmer (Lilly) Mueller; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as Bill's family…Florence celebrated all the people in her life. In every visit, she quickly enjoyed hearing about her visitor’s life and would enter into their experience, leaving them knowing they were precious and valuable. Florence leaves a beautiful legacy of deep faith in Jesus Christ, continuous prayer, and an attitude of overcoming; she was a fighter for every moment of life. Her unconditional love for all her family and friends made it hard for her to leave us. Mom brought laughter to our home daily, always finding something to smile about. The last 3 years of her life were lived in Sunnyside Care Centre, which became home for her. With sincere thankfulness, we appreciate the love and care that was given daily by the staff. Mom was always grateful for you going the extra mile. To Dr. Ahmad, a huge thank you from our heart to yours for all you did for mom; we appreciate your care so much. Also, to the Dialysis Team and the amazing staff of 5 West in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, we extend a special thank you. You were always kind and compassionate to mom even though the journey was difficult. Thank you also to Dr. Monty, Dr. Osborne, Dr. Jonker and Dr. Marsay for all you did for mom. We will have a service to celebrate Florence’s life on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the WUERFEL AUDITORIUM in the Sunnyside Care Centre, 1720 Bell Street SW. Memorial gifts in Florence's memory may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit, c/o Medicine Hat and District Health Foundation, 666 – 5th Street SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 4H6 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Medicine Hat & District Branch, 102, 73 – 7th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1J2.
