1931 ~ CHARLES McDONALD ~ 2017 Charles McDonald of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, January 2nd, 2017 at the age of 85 years. KINNEY Irene Raylene Kinney passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016, at the age of 57 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved companion Wendall Hawco of Medicine Hat; her son, Barry Kinney of Medicine Hat and her two granddaughters Ashlynn and Katelynn who were the light of her life; and one brother, Ralph (Diane) Kinney of Orangedale, Cape Breton. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Donelda “Dawn” Kinney. JEANETTE MERRICK March 13, 1951 ~ December 20, 2016 Jeanette Merrick (nee Schneider) of Wedowee, AL, USA, formerly of Medicine Hat, beloved wife and soulmate of the late Paul Merrick, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the age of 65 years. Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory two children: Eli (Nicole) Merrick and their children, Elise and Inara as well as Jacquie (Ron) Martinez and their children, Brittany and Danielle; siblings, Carol (Tony) Carter, Ron (Marg) Schneider, Gary (Donna) Schneider, Betty-Ann (Bob) Newman and Laura (Ron) Volk as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with Paul, Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Ken and Eva Schneider. Jeanette was born and raised in Medicine Hat in a strong German household. She was the first family member to earn a University degree, and met her husband and soulmate Paul while at college. Together, they raised two children and had several close friendships. To her, nothing was better than telling stories with friends and family. Jeanette was at all times an entertainer, an organizer, a risk-taker and a missionary. After Paul’s death, she expanded her travels. Jeanette remarried and moved to Alabama, loving the warmth and community. She was the accountant that didn't play by the numbers. During her life, she traveled to 6 continents, was an active member of 5 Christian churches, a proud Oma to 4 grandchildren, enjoyed visiting with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers, had dual citizenship and was one unforgettable lady. She died in Alabama following complications from a previous car accident. She will be missed on Earth and appreciated in Heaven. ROSE DUCHSCHERER Rose Duchscherer of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Henry Duchscherer, passed away on Saturday, December 31st, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Rose leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Marlene (Joe) Kurtz, Ron (Marlene) Duchscherer, Ivan (Annalisa) Duchscherer, Carol (Gary) Kavanaugh, and Joann Scory (Tim Eichorn); eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Verna) Bischoff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Henry Duchscherer; her parents, George and Felicia Bischoff; seven siblings and their spouses; as well as Henry's siblings and their spouses. Rose was born in Leader, Saskatchewan on October 25th, 1927 and attended Nicefield School. She married Henry in Prelate, Saskatchewan on November 20th, 1946 and they farmed until retirement in 1976. Rose and Henry moved to Medicine Hat in August of 1990. She was a CWL member at St. Frances Church in Prelate, St. Mary's Catholic Church and then Holy Family Parish in Medicine Hat. Rose loved spending time with her family and friends and loved to sing. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and helping them grow. ROY WEISS
February 6, 1930 – December 28, 2016 It is with deep sadness that the family of Roy Weiss announce his passing at South Country Village on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 after a battle with cancer. Roy will be lovingly missed by Gloria, his best friend and wife of 54 years. Also mourning his passing are his children: Brenda (Joel) DeFord, Kent (Karen) Weiss, Elroy Weiss, and Roxanne (Trent) Doerksen; his grandchildren: Josiah, Nicole, Sarah, Derek, David, Rachel, Mary, Abigail, Anne, and Ava; his great-grandson, Benjamin; and two sisters, Mabel Riemer and Rose Fried. He was predeceased by a brother, Allan in childhood; his parents, John and Minnie Weiss; his wife, Ella (Zeitner) Weiss – mother of Brenda, Kent and Elroy; his brother, Harold Weiss; and his sister, Pearl Faszer.
Roy was born in Hilda, attended elementary school in Hilda and Olds, and high school at Prairie High School in Three Hills where he developed an interest in missions. He then attended Bible School at CTI in Edmonton. Next to his love for Jesus was his love for his family and people in general. Roy was gracious, kind and frugal, but generous. He worked at South Country Village from 1967 in management and later was on the Board of Directors until the present. Roy went on seven mission trips with Campus Crusade showing the “Jesus Film” in Brazil, Cameroon, Africa and Mexico. Roy and Gloria also volunteered at the Banso Baptist Hospital in Cameroon for almost a year. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. Gideons International in Canada was another area of service as well as weekly visits to the Medicine Hat Remand Center from its opening until 2016. Roy also enjoyed time spent working at Prairie Gleaners.

WAYNE OLENICK 1938 ~ 2016
Wayne Philip Olenick passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, December 30, 2016, at the age of 78 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his partner of 30 years, Carol Farr; son, Dean (Maria) Olenick; Carol’s children, Leslie (Al) Kinghorn and Brett (Val Carlson) Farr; five grandchildren, Jericho, Connor and Joshua Olenick, Ryan Olenick, Tera (Eligh) Olenick Ware and Mia Kinghorn; two great- grandchildren, Michael Olenick and Noah Olenick; sister, Audrey Johnston; nephew, Andy Johnston and niece, Stephanie (Kyle) Robertson. He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Helga Olenick; son, Terry Olenick and a brother-in-law, Jack Johnston. Wayne was born April 9, 1938 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He started working at a young age with the CPR and later obtained certification as a journeyman welder. He worked in many areas in Western Canada as a welder and later as an oilfield consultant, retiring in 2006. When Wayne wasn’t working away from home he liked to paint and take over the kitchen, baking. He loved to have the grandchildren visit in the summer and loved to camp, especially at the Cabri Regional Park. After retirement, Wayne and Carol spent a few years in their fifth wheel at Tapadera, B.C., where they enjoyed visits with family and made new friends. The last few years they rented in North Vancouver, B.C. for a few weeks in the winter. Wayne continued to paint and took up woodcarving and looked forward to hunting gophers (underground beaver) with his friend, Mel in the summer, and watch curling on TV in the winter. Wayne was a people person, always fun to be with and there was never a dull moment with him. He was very appreciative of his family and friends and at the end, his caregivers in the hospital and he never failed to let everyone know it. A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant Gerry Getz officiating.
