ALFRED BORROWS

1929 – 2016
It is with sadness and celebration that the family of Alfred William Borrows, beloved husband of Lee Borrows, announce his passing at Masterpiece River Ridge in Medicine Hat on Friday, December 9, 2016, at the age of 87 years, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers. Alf will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Lee; children, Sharon (Lyle) Taylor, Don (Pat) Borrows, Lori (Rod) Braun, Mark (Rebecca) Borrows; fondly remembered by his eight grandchildren, Crystal, Jill, Nicolas, Jordan, Jenna, Mitchell, Joshua and Ksenya; and his sister, Darlene (Hans) Mueller. Alf was predeceased by his parents, one brother and one sister. He enjoyed a career as a Sheet Metal mechanic and following his retirement, Alf worked for the Medicine Hat School Board as a custodian. He was a kind, caring and considerate individual, which was always expressed by the love for his family and most importantly, his Saviour Jesus. Alf’s life will be celebrated with joy, at River Valley Community Church (formely, Christ The King Assembly), 1101 Queen Street S.E., Medicine Hat, Alberta on Friday, December 16, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Mark Borrows officiating. A private family interment has already taken place. DANIEL E. BIGGS

October 9, 1938 – December 12, 2016
It is with profound sadness that the family of Daniel Biggs Sr. announce his sudden passing on December 12, 2016 at the age of 78. He leaves to mourn his passing his only daughter Terry (Allan) Hoffart and his son Kelly (Vicki) Biggs, as well as 6 grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Bernice (Dave) Thompson and his brother Dale (Sharon) Biggs. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his youngest son Daniel Jr. Dad was a man who enjoyed a simple life and in that regard he had requested no funeral on his behalf. It is our wish that you remember him while enjoying a quiet evening with your family, sharing a beer with friends or spending a day at your favourite fishing spot…..Dad would have like that.

HUNSICKER

Rosie Hunsicker (Schneider) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the age of 100 years, beloved wife of the late Paul Hunsicker who passed away in 2005. She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Fay Braun of Calgary, Ruth (Chuck) Orr of Medicine Hat, Myron (Jane) Huniscker of Medicine Hat and Marilyn Hunsicker of Havre, Montana; seven grandchildren, Paula, Cathy, Kim, Tom, Michael, Brandon and Alyson; sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Esther and one brother, Fred. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Rosina; one daughter, Marion in infancy; one sister, Irene and one brother, Emil.
Rosie was born in Hilda on August 15, 1916. She had two sisters and two brothers. When Rosie was a year old, her family moved to Irvine where she resided until the age of 22. As a child, she did not have much time for play as she was responsible for looking after the younger children and did many of the household chores. In 1927, Rosie began working at the post office which was located in her father’s locally owned store, “Schneider Brother’s”. Her days were spent sorting the mail that would come into town on the train. Since there was no bank in the small town she was also responsible for the money brought in by the farmers from the local grain elevators. During her time in Irvine, Rosie became very involved with the local church and in 1939 decided to go to Bible School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was during this year that she got engaged to her future husband, Paul Hunsicker. They were married in Cathay, North Dakota in 1940 and resided there for three years. Being the wife of a pastor involved moving to many different places; North Dakota, Nebraska, British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and California. When they retired, they moved back to Medicine Hat and spent winters in Arizona. It was during this period that Rosie decided to take up oil painting and created many beautiful, special paintings. Some of these paintings were displayed at Chinook Village, where she resided for the rest of her life. Rosie enjoyed living at Chinook and was involved with some of the activities as well as helping out at the corner store. She loved visits with her family members and would take short trips to see them for as long as she was able.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Lance Duncalfe officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. MASTEL

Josephine Mastel of Medicine Hat passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at the age of 81 years, beloved wife of the late Andrew Mastel. She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Daryl and Nancy Mastel, (their children, Kayla and Brooke); Wanda Chisholm (her children, Jade (Jesse) Leipert and Brock), Dwight and Penny Mastel (his children, Dayn and Karlie); Dwayne Mastel; Doug and Erin Mastel (their children, Delaney, Wyatt and Kasch; one sister-in-law Marie Schmaltz as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew on May 13, 2011; her parents Margaret and Anton Seifert; daughter-in-law, Kathy Mastel and son-in-law, Larry Chisholm. Josephine married Andrew Mastel on November 10, 1958. Together they lived and farmed at Liebenthal until 1982, when they moved to Medicine Hat. . Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m and at the church on Friday from 12:00 noon to 12:55 p.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Albert Sayson celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
