Annie Pauline Degenhardt (Erickson) 1942 ~ 2016Annie Degenhardt, beloved wife of William “Bill” Degenhardt of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at the age of 74 years. Annie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Bill; her son, Patrick (Lisa) Degenhardt and their children, Payton and Jaxon Degenhardt; her daughter, Michaelene (Doug) Spencer and their children, Billie and Leighton Spencer; one sister, Vivian Anhelher; four sisters-in-law, Ilene Getz, Delores (Dick) Edwards, Valeri (Rick) Stefani and Gerry Degenhardt; one brother-in-law, John Degenhardt; as well as many nieces and nephews. Annie was predeceased by her parents, Nels and Brita Erickson; her in-laws, Val and Connie Degenhardt; one brother, Johnny Erickson; one sister, Bertha Long; three brothers-in-law, Jack Anhelher, Lewis Long and Mike Degenhardt; and one nephew, Kenny Stefani. Annie was born on August 24th, 1942 in Cabri, Saskatchewan, was raised in Abbey, Saskatchewan and later moved to Medicine Hat. She attended Garbutt’s Business College. Annie married her husband Bill on May 8th, 1965. Together they raised their two children in Medicine Hat. She was employed by Lily, Sherlock and Baker Insurance and later became a home maker. Annie will be remembered for her photographic memory of important dates…in the past and the future. She enjoyed doing yard work and feeding the rabbits and the birds. Annie also enjoyed family gatherings and loved her family and grandchildren. She made the best short bread cookies. Annie enjoyed watching curling and football, and was proud to be a long-time member of the Legion. At Annie’s request, there will be no formal funeral. “Nothing fancy”. A private ceremony of Annie’s life will be held at a later date. A Come and Go Celebration of Annie’s life will be held at MICHAELENE AND DOUG SPENCER’S RESIDENCE, 1736 – 13th Avenue SE, on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Annie’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. EVA GLOSLIE 1924 – 2016
Mrs. Eva Gloslie (nee Van Maarion) passed away in the Sunnyview Care Centre at South Country Village, Medicine Hat on Monday, November 28, 2016, at the age of 92 years. Eva is survived by her brothers, Leonard (Caroline) Van Maarion and Jack (Ella) Van Maarion; nephews, Richard (Merideth), Ron (Wendy), Brent, Murray (Karen), Craig, Todd (Natalie) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews. Eva was predeceased by her husband, Jack in 2013; her devoted twin sister, Evelyn Entzminger in May of this year and her niece, Vicki Lynn (Shane) Leuck in 2014. Eva grew up on the ranch south of Seven Persons. In 1952, she married Jack Gloslie of Blaine, Washington, making their home there for most of her years. She loved living close to the ocean and was a beloved citizen of Blaine. Christmas was a busy time of year for Eva as she baked for many town workers and members of the community. Her extended family from the prairie made many trips to enjoy the seaside with Eva as their tour guide. Eva loved the annual salmon fishing trip that she and Jack took to the furthest tip of Washington’s coast. Together, they also had many fond memories of touring the United States in their motorhome. The family would like to thank the staff at South Country Village for the compassion and care provided to Eva. She will be laid to rest in Bellingham, Washington when spring arrives and the tulips are in bloom. HAUCK Kenneth “Ken†Dale Hauck passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the age of 64 years, beloved husband of Elaine Hauck of Redcliff and loving father of two sons, Jordan (Jen) Hauck (their children Connor and Madelyn); Nathan Hauck; one brother John (Wendy) Hauck, two sisters, Caroline (Jerry) Springer and Audrey (Ross) Turlock; two brothers-in-law, Dennis (Roslyn) Weisgerber and Charlie (Pat) Weisgerber; one sister-in-law Pat Hauck as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Fred Hauck and one brother Alf. Ken owned and operated Ken Hauck Truck Repair and Towing and had a huge involvement in the trucking industry. He enjoyed the company of people and good conversation. Ken had many interests in life. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Friday, from 12 noon – 12:55 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. JOHN R. HAMMEL 1927 – 2016
It is with tremendous sadness that our family announces the passing of husband, father and papa, John R. Hammel. John was born on February 21, 1927, in Prelate, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully on December 5, 2016, after a long but courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ada; children, Kathy, Scott (Sandra) and Ken (Christie); his beloved grandchildren, Aubrey, Mitchell, Kelly, Alison, Maggie, Laura, Alex and Ben. John is also survived by his sisters, Rose (Joe) Thome of Moose Jaw, SK., and Emily Hammel of Medicine Hat; his brother, Phil (Jackie †) Hammel of Saskatoon, and by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews who loved his company. John was predeceased by his brother, Joe (Geraldine) Hammel. Before his retirement in 1983, John enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an educator and principal at McCoy High School in Medicine Hat. He is remembered fondly by the many graduates of McCoy over his 20 years of leadership and guidance. The Celebration of John’s life and contributions to his community will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, 238 – 2 Avenue NE, Medicine Hat with a Catholic Funeral Mass on Friday, December 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Father Tomy Manjaly celebrant. All who knew him are invited to celebrate with us. SOX Alexander “Zander†Francis Sox passed away in the arms of his loving parents after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, December 4, 2016 in Calgary. Zander was born on April 9, 2012 in Medicine Hat to Landon and Amy Sox of Burstall. He also leaves behind his brother Anthony and his sister Athena; his grandparents, Terry and Margie Volk of Burstall; Alan and Heather Sox of Irvine; uncles and aunts, Myles and Lindsay Peterson; Dan and Marianne Taylor, all of Calgary; John and Jennifer McLeod (Kaitlyn, Paige and Madelyn) of Medicine Hat; great grandmothers, Waneeta Ritter of Medicine Hat and Phyllis Schweigert of Eatonia as well as many other loving relatives.
Zander was an inspiration to many. After being diagnosed with brain cancer at age 3, he proved to everyone how much of a super-hero he was. Becoming a paraplegic, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, could not stop his amazing personality from shining through. Zander didn’t lose his fight to cancer. He defeated it by taking away the one thing it needed to survive.
The family would like to give big thanks to his entire care team at Alberta Children’s Hospital, Rotary Flames House and the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Doug Strother and Dr. Nina Hardcastle. We will never forget all that you did for our son. Thank you also to all those who supported us in the last 19 months.
The funeral service will be held in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus officiating. In honor of our super-hero, we ask people to wear super-hero shirts if they wish.
