1930 ~ DENGIS ~ 2016 Paul Gerard Dengis, beloved husband of Grada Dengis of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, November 7th, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Paul also leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Dan (Brenda) Dengis, Terry (Nicole) Dengis and Francis (Natasha) Dengis; one daughter, Myriame McLeod; seven grandchildren, Shaun (Christine) Dengis, Stephanie (Kippy) Yerxa, Leah (Mike) Wollersheim, Marissa Dengis, Taylor Dengis, Jeff McLeod and Trent (Carole) McLeod; six great grandchildren, Clara Yerxa, Bo Yerxa, Cassidy Dengis, Scott Wollersheim, Emma Wollersheim and Mathew Wollersheim; one brother, Jean Dengis; one sister, Marie Reine Wesel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Juile and Germaine Dengis. Paul was born on December 10th, 1930 in Belgium. He married Grada on April 16th, 1955 in Holland. Paul and Grada immigrated to Canada in 1957, settling in Calgary. Paul worked as a finishing carpenter for 60 years, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling. Paul was a good husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A Private Family Time of Remembrance will take place. The family of Lubina (Bev) Crockford announces the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the age of 88 years. Mom was living at Meadowlands Retirement Community at the time of her passing. She was born on July 20, 1928 in Sosnica, Poland to Harry and Pearl Szostaczko. The family, including brother, Nick and sister, Sally immigrated to Canada in 1935, settling in Beverley, Saskatchewan. Wanting to fit in with the Canadian kids, she adopted the name Bev. Bev worked at the Redcliff Glass Factory during heR teenage years. It was at this time she met her life partner, Rod Crockford. She married Rod on August 16, 1947. They moved into their home at 52 – 10 Street S.W. and lived there for 58 years until the time of dad’s passing in 2005. Their three children were raised in this home. She also worked at the Medicine Hat News as a proofreader and at the jewelry counter at Eaton’s (Hence her obsession with jewelry). She also worked at the Royal Canadian Legion with Rod. She was an excellent baker. Her tarts, butterhorns and apple pies were popular with her family. In their retirement years they enjoyed camping out at Elkwater, square dancing and playing golf. Bev is survived by her sister, Betty Elsbett of Dutchess, AB; three children: Sandra (Nolan) Fisher of White Rock, B.C.; Sheryl (Russ Golonowski) Lyons of Medicine Hat, AB; Rod (Gina) Crockford of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jason (Leanna) Fisher, Heath (Cara) Matthews, Jennifer (Norm) Raitt, Lyndzie (Luc) Reaume, Jordan (Val) Mathews and Jillian Crockford; nine great-grandchildren: Drayden Perner-Matthews, Fox Matthews, Cassandra Fisher, Sydney Matthews, Cameron Fisher, twins Jordan and Teagan Fisher and twins Nolan and Griffin Raitt. A Celebration of Bev’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on November 14, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with Major Murray Jaster officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery with a reception thereafter in the Cook Southland Reception Facility. CORNELIA 'CORRIE' BOUTKAN March 4, 1928 – November 6, 2016
It is with sadness that the family of Cornelia ‘Corrie’ Boutkan, beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Boutkan, announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at the age of 88 years. Corrie was born March 4, 1928 in Rotterdam, Holland a daughter to William and Jacoba Vandenberg. She grew up in Holland where she received her education and began training as a nurse. She found nursing very rewarding as she excelled in her chosen field working in Holland, Switzerland and later in Canada when she immigrated in 1958. She married William Boutkan on October 4, 1958 and their marriage was blessed with the births of four children, Jacoba, Richard, Martin and Jeannette. Corrie was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them and going for picnics or watching the grandkids playing in the park. She was a crafty lady who enjoyed knitting and through the years had made many pairs of slippers and mittens. Corrie loved to go for leisurely bike rides and liked to make music by playing the organ. She was always pleasant and fun to be with as she had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to laugh with those around her. Family was of most importance to her – she was genuinely caring, kind and selfless and these qualities will never be forgotten by her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by her children, Jacoba (Les) Kovacs of Nanaimo, B.C., Richard (Connie) Boutkan of Medicine Hat, Martin (Karen) Boutkan of Calgary and Jeannette Schneider (Ed Ten Hove and his children, Shae-Lynn and Jacob); grandchildren, Kris and Rick (great-grandson, Seth); Whitney and Ethan; Emily; Graham and Alex; sister, Jane (Laine) Bakelaar of Medicine Hat, brother, Henk (Ann) Vandenberg of Vernon, B.C. and brother-in-law, Casey (Ann) Boutkan of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Peter Glockner, B.Sc (Hon.), M.Sc., Ph.D., P. Eng. January 26, 1929 – November 5, 2016
Dr. Peter Glockner passed away peacefully at Agape Hospice in Calgary, on November 5, 2016. He is survived by Sarah (nee Kraft), his wife of 61 years, his daughter Marilyn (Jack Dale) and his brother John (Rita) of Nelson, B.C., as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born in Mórágy, Hungary to Peter Glockner and Elisabeth Biel, Peter obtained his grade and secondary school education before leaving his native land with his parents and brother in 1946. They immigrated to Canada in 1949, settling in Medicine Hat. After spending a year and a half as a construction labourer, playing with local bands and learning English, he returned to school for a year, graduating in June 1951, with distinction and setting a new provincial record high average grade in the departmental examinations. This earned him a scholarship at McGill where he earned a B. Sc. (Honours) in Civil Engineering. A fellowship took him to MIT for his M.Sc. and the Ford Foundation provided support for his Ph. D. at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
His academic career began in February, 1958 at the University of Alberta as Assistant Professor of Applied Mechanics in Civil Engineering. At his request, he was transferred to the new Calgary campus in September 1960, where he became a founding member of the Faulty of Engineering, spending the remainder of his career in teaching and research. He became Associate and Full professor of Civil Engineering in 1962 and 1967 respectively, served as Acting Head of Civil Engineering and was invited to become Head of Mechanical Engineering in 1976, holding that position for 11 years. From 1976 until his retirement in 1994, he was professor in both Departments. He wrote A Place of Ingenuity, a book on the Faculty of Engineering's history. His foundational work in two departments and the faculty were recognized by appointing him Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Engineering, a first-ever distinction.
Dr. Glockner’s fundamental and applied studies on solid mechanics topics such as the behaviour of shells and inflatables, creeping stability and constitutive modeling of nonlinear time-dependent materials including ice, resulted in over 300 publications and invitations for lectures and keynote addresses around the globe. His contributions were also recognized by numerous awards, prizes and distinctions including EIC’s Gzowski Gold Medal, ASCE’s Mosseiff Medal and Prize and the 1993 Canadian Congress of Applied Mechanics, CANCAM, Medal and Award. In 1994, a special international conference, "A World of Shells," was organized in his honour at the Banff Centre.
Professor Glockner served on boards of directors of national and international learned societies and professional organizations and has been elected Fellow of the American Academy of Mechanics by whom he was selected President Elect for 1994-95, The American Society of Civil Engineers, The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, and the Engineering Institute of Canada.
With his wife Sarah, he established the Peter Glockner Engineering Scholarship for Excellence, awarded to a third-year student enrolled full-time in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
Peter Glockner found relaxation in his lifelong love of playing the accordion, in swimming and playing tennis, and in writing and editing the Hungarian Ethnic Lexicon, an English translation of a Hungarian Encyclopedia.

WOODRUFF David S. Woodruff (Woody) passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home at Overlander Extended Care Hospital on November 4 2016 aged 82 years. Survived by his daughters, Marilee (Greg) Hermiston, Marci (Alan) Henderson, his grandsons, Jordan Hermiston, Daren (Lexi) Hermiston and Corey (Brooke Dennill) Hermiston. Sisters Elnor (Finlay) McNaughton, Cheryl (Ralph) Wilkey, sister-in-law Doris Woodruff and many wonderful nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Pre-deceased by his wife Joyce, his father Merrill Woodruff, his mother and step-father Bernice and Walter Brown and his brother Emerson Woodruff and his sister-in-law Phyllis Bader.
Woody was born in Medicine Hat Alberta on March 17, 1934. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1954 and served in the regular forces for 34 years and the reserve forces for five years before his retirement. He was a lifelong hockey player and golfer. He and Joyce were married in June of 1956 and settled in Victoria where they raised their daughters. They retired to Vernon and then Kamloops and enjoyed a wonderful retirement with their daughters, son-in-laws and grandsons.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Overlander Extended Care Hospital Auxiliary in Woody’s name.
The family would like to extend our deepest thanks, appreciation and love to the angels at Overlander, Blueberry Lane who took such wonderful care of our father and papa for the last year and a half. Condolences may be expressed at http://www.schoeningfuneralservice.com
