1926 ~ MATTHEIS ~ 2016

Boyd Clifford Mattheis of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Darline Mattheis, passed away on Friday, June 17th, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Boyd leaves to cherish his memory one son, Lyndon (Cindy) Mattheis; one daughter, Karmen (Tom) Reyes; one grandson, Christopher Reyes; one sister, Mary Litke; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Boyd was predeceased by his wife, Darline; his parents, Ludwig and Lydia Mattheis; one brother, Albert (Emma) Mattheis; one sister, Lillian (Gilbert) Bye; and one brother-in-law, Leon Litke. Boyd was born on December 23rd, 1926 in Hilda, Alberta where he was raised and educated. He married Darline Krenzler on June 3rd, 1957 and together they settled on the family farm in Hilda before retiring to Medicine Hat in 1988. Boyd will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1 Dunmore Road SE, on Sunday from 1:00 until 1:55 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, on Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dennis Braun officiating. 1935 ~ PIEHL ~ 2016

Edna Mae Piehl (nee Brown) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Wednesday, June 15th, 2016 at the age of 80 years. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Loring Piehl in September 2014. Born in Vulcan, Alberta to Lloyd and Doris, her early years were spent in Disbury, Herronton and Mossleigh. After completing high school in Mossleigh, she married the love of her life, Loring Piehl on November 24th, 1953 beginning their lives together as famers/ranchers. From Mossleigh they moved to the DeWinton, Alberta area and then east of Okotoks where they continued to ranch. Mom worked at the Okotoks High School and Percy Pegler school as an administrative assistant until 1975, then they moved to Webster Farms at Simmie/Shaunavon, SK area. They loved their years in Saskatchewan, but in April of 1998 they retired to Medicine Hat. Over the years, Mom enjoyed curling at Davisburg, crocheting, painting, ceramics, music and most of all family and friends especially her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She had a warm and welcoming home where there was always room for one more and no one was a stranger. Everywhere Mom and Dad went they made lifelong friends. Mom is survived by her children, Darrell (Betty Carbert) Piehl of Lethbridge, Brenda Piehl of Calgary and Loreen (Barry Wiedemann) Piehl-Wiedemann of Medicine Hat; as well as her brother, Gordon (Anna) Brown of Grand Forks BC. She is also survived by grandchildren, Lloyd Piehl of Calgary, Sarah Piehl of Calgary, Jennifer (Ryan) Matt of Medicine Hat, Loring (Katelyn Stevens) Wiedemann of Medicine Hat, Victor Wiedemann of Victoria, BC, Rachel Wiedemann of Medicine Hat, and great grandsons, Roan and Jackson Matt. Also special friends, Deborah Ross, Leila Wright and Frank and Fran Hagedorn; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mom is predeceased by her husband, Loring Piehl; parents, Lloyd and Doris Brown; and brothers, Ronnie and Bobby Brown. The Funeral Service will be held at FIFTH AVENUE MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH, 476 – 4th Street SE, on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend David Pollard officiating. A Private Interment will take place at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery.
