1922 ~ MEYER ~ 2016

Grace Meyer of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 at the age of 93 years. Grace leaves to cherish her memory one son, Gregory Wiebe of Grindrod, BC; three step-children; one brother, Edward Forge of Swift Current; two nieces, Eleanore Forge of Swift Current and Dorothy (Don) Armstrong of Saskatoon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Wiebe; her second husband, Fred Meyer; two brothers, Reginald Forge and Roy Forge (in infancy); and one sister, Pearl Currie. Grace was born on a farm near Beverley, Saskatchewan on April 28th, 1922. She attended school in Beverley and later attended Garbutt Business College in Medicine Hat. Grace worked at Western Savings and Credit Union in Swift Current as a secretary. Her passions in life were music and singing. Grace will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. A Graveside Service will be held at Maple Creek Cemetery in September 2016. Eva MacDonald of Suffield, beloved wife of the late Collin A. MacDonald, passed away on Tuesday, April 26th, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Eva leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Collin W. ALBRECHT

Edwin Albrecht of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016, at the age of 84 years, beloved husband of the late Violet Albrecht. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Miles (Elaine) Albrecht of Calgary, Tracey (Bruce) Lerner of Regina and Peggy (Kerry) Purves of Medicine Hat; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Nate) Brooks, Nolan (Nicole) Lerner, Kimberly (Sheldon) Rinas, Jessica (Randy) Siewert and Shyanna Albrecht; Danny (Erin) Purves, Clint (Lisa) Purves and Odessa Schwabe and their families; two brothers, Ernie (Shirley) Albrecht and Marvin (Alvena) Albrecht; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Albrecht and Eleanor Albrecht as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Christina and Carl Albrecht; his wife Violet on August 16, 2010; one grandson, Tyson; two brothers, Carl Jr. And Clarence and one sister Esther (Richard) Eisenbarth. Edwin was born on the family homestead near Linacre, Saskatchewan where he was raised and attended Peace Valley School in the area. Following school, he began working for C.P.R., swinging a hammer and driving spikes. On January 10, 1953, Edwin married Violet MacPhail at St. Patrick’s Church in Medicine Hat. He then worked as a truck driver for C.P.R. and then as a Medicine Hat Police Officer. Their three children were born in Medicine Hat and in 1959, he returned to take over the family farm. They retired to Medicine Hat in 2009 and Violet passed away shortly after. He loved working his land, fixing his machinery, and playing cards and marbles with his grandchildren. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 – 10:55 a.m. Family and friends will gather for prayers in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated in Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Philip Le celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. GAIL McINTYRE

November 30, 1956 ~ April 8, 2016

Mrs. Gail McIntyre, beloved wife of Larry McIntyre of Medicine Hat for 38 years, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 8, 2016, at the age of 59 years. Besides Larry, she leaves to cherish her memory her children, Scott (Kaeli) McIntyre, Christopher (Jesse) McIntyre and Brett McIntyre; grandchildren, Damon, Sophia, Edin, Allison and Samantha; two sisters, Norma (John) Leader of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta and Colleen (Jim) Pallister of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba; father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Marge McIntyre; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Dale Burch, Carol Cairnes, Brad and Sheri McIntyre as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Gail was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Jean Boddy. Gail was born November 30, 1956, in Portage la Prairie and grew up on her parents farm located just north of the city. The values of farm life were instilled in her at a young age as a 4H member for years and won many awards for public speaking. She received her primary schooling at Rob Roy and Portage schools and later attended college in Winnipeg where she studied Secretarial Science. Gail met Larry in High School and after an inseparable romance, they married in 1977. In 1979, Larry and Gail moved to Burstall, Saskatchewan where they had two sons, Scott and Chris. In 1986 the family moved to Medicine Hat and their third son Brett was born. Gail was dedicated to her sons and was an avid hockey and soccer mom. When the boys were older Gail decided she needed something to keep busy – with one resume she was working at a medical walk-in clinic and later worked for Dr. Durand. After suffering an accident she decided to stay at home. Gail enjoyed her crafts and spent countless hours making Christmas Stockings for every new baby that was born in the family. Gail’s passing was unexpected and too soon and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Dr. Barrie I. Strafford passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the age of 87 years.
Barrie Ingram Strafford was born in Manchester, England on September 26, 1928. His early years were academically strong and he competed in swimming and track and field. He also enjoyed tennis, racquetball, golf, crib and flying his own airplane. He competed on an eight-ball pool team with his son and grandson until his passing. After the tragic loss of his wife Brenda, Barrie founded The Brenda Strafford Foundation.
Barrie will be lovingly remembered by his children Miles Strafford (Joni) and daughter Alison (Doug) of Calgary, Roxanne Sissons (Clayton) of Medicine Hat, Sheree Strafford-Bliss (Dan) of Medicine Hat and Lisa Strafford (Vorra) of Calgary; grandchildren, Troy Strafford (Lisa) of Stratford, ON, Joel Vorra (Mollie Oberg) of Calgary and Elizabeth Sissons of Cork, Ireland; great-grandchildren Kennedy and Roman Strafford of Stratford, ON and his best friend Oscar the cat. Barrie was predeceased by the love of his life Brenda in 1974.
Barrie was Director of the Lions Club of Calgary and Medicine Hat; Director and Chairman of the Board of AMA in Medicine Hat; Chairman of the Nursing Home Committee Alberta Hospital Association; Director of the Alberta Hospital Association and President of the Cypress Club in Medicine Hat.
Barrie’s commitment to service has resulted in numerous honours over the years, The Sisserou Award of Honour from People of Dominica; Honourary Doctor of Laws Degree from the U of C; The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal; the Alberta Centennial Medal; Honourary Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; The Alberta Order of Excellence; Partner in Health Award (CARNA); Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal; Grant MacEwan Lifetime Achievement Award-Calgary Awards 2014; The 2016 Humanitarian Award of Friends of Good Shephard International–Jamaica. Barrie also received the highest papal honour available when he was made a Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by Pope Benedict XVI.
