1924 ~ ROSET ~ 2016

Mr. Ted (Theodore) Roset of Medicine Hat, previously from Lethbridge, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the age of 91 years.
Ted was born in Gouldtown, Saskatchewan on May 25, 1924. He married Evelyn Markwart on July 19, 1947. They lived in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and in 1948 moved to Gouldtown to take over the Roset family farm until 1952. They had two sons, Kenneth Dale and Donald Albert. Ted was a skillful carpenter and he built many homes in Southern Saskatchewan until he moved to Alberta to build mobile homes. In 1962, they moved to Lethbridge where Ted became plant Superintendent and Assistant Manager of HaiCo Manufacturing (Wickes Canada) where they built recreational vehicles. Ted retired in 1983. Evelyn struggled with her health and passed away on January 1, 1984. Ted moved to Medicine Hat to be near family in 2010. He was known for his deep love for God and his sense of humor.
Ted is survived by his two sons: Rev. Ken (Carol) Roset and Don (Bonni) Roset; six grandchildren: Cherlynn (Ryan) Wiest, Kevin (Shannon) Roset, Jason (Kerry) Roset, Janelle (David) Haitel, Graeme (Esther) Roset, Morgan (Daniel) Hargrave; nine great grandchildren: Jaelynn and Kamryn Wiest, Jada and Carter Roset, Axel and Raven Roset, Reagan, Danica and Ariana Haitel. Ted is survived by two of his sisters, O’Della Giesbrecht and Gladys Roset; one brother-in-law, Herb Markwart; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Ted was predeceased by his wife: Evelyn; sister, Hazel Forge; and brothers: Chester, Oscar and Wilfred Roset. Ted will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all of his family and friends.

1926 ~ HARMON ~ 2016

Jack (John) Porter Harmon of Bow Island, beloved husband of the late Eileen Harmon, passed away on Wednesday, January 13th, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Jack leaves to cherish his memory one son, Gary (Cecelia) Harmon of Lethbridge; three daughters, Judi (Ken) Solberg of Bow Island, Carol (Ron) Wutzke and Joy (Blaine) Kisinger, both of Medicine Hat; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Clarence Gilbertson. Jack was predeceased by his wife, Eileen; his parents, Evan and Grace Harmon; one son, Ellery Harmon; and one daughter, Evelyn Gilbertson. Jack was born on November 1st, 1926 in Sedgewick, Alberta. He married Eileen Anna Hollingsworth on November 12th, 1947. Together they moved to the Gas Camp, north of Bow Island on the South Saskatchewan River. Here they raised six children. Jack was active in the local Mason's chapter and later with the Medicine Hat Shriners. He retired from Canadian Western Natural Gas in 1982, where he worked as a Gas Plant Operator for 36 years. In 1970, Jack and Eileen moved to Bow Island and opened Harmon's Super Save which eventually became home to Sears and Greyhound. Locals found the store a comfortable, friendly place to meet, visit and have coffee. Jack had a zest for learning and took many courses at SAIT, Medicine Hat College and correspondence courses. He received many certifications, such as refrigeration and journeyman heavy duty mechanic. Jack loved to visit and tell stories. He also wrote many short stories, poems and prayers and loved to share these with everyone. A Memorial Service will be held at the BOW ISLAND EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 214 – 4th Avenue West on Friday, January 22nd, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Roger Lobb officiating. CHRISTOPHER JACOB GERBRANDT CD

It is with great sorrow that the family of Sheriff Christopher Gerbrandt announce his sudden passing on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the age of 46 years. Chris was born in Ottawa, Ontario on September 14, 1969. At the age of 12, Chris joined the army cadets, and later enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1987. Chris continued his military involvement as a Captain with the army cadets, which he loved and actively participated in until the time of his passing. He also worked with Calgary Transit for 13 years. Chris began his career with the Alberta Sheriffs in 2008, and was posted to Medicine Hat where he primarily served at the local court house. Chris had a passion for photography, and most evenings and weekends were spent taking photographs of sports teams and players, cadets, and other special events. Chris was also a proud member, and the club photographer for the Medicine Hat Burns Club.
He is gone too soon but will always be in our hearts. Survived by his loving wife, Kimberly; sons, Kyle and Kolten; parents, Gary and Norma Hurst of Calgary; brothers, Robert (Bonnie) of Barrie, Ontario, and Michael of Vilna, Alberta; nephew, Gary; and many more family members and friends. Chris was predeceased by his father, David Gerbrandt on March 26, 2000.

Doris Ann Greenstein passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the age of 78 years, beloved wife of Anton “Tony” Greenstein of Medicine Hat. JOHN WILFRED WATSON

December 18, 1927 – January 5, 2016
John Wilfred Watson of Maple Creek passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at the age of 88 years, beloved husband of the late Verna Watson. Johnny was born and raised in Maple Creek. He enjoyed sports and was hard worker from a young age. He was the son to Studwell and Carrie Watson. Johnny married Verna Unger of Herbert, Saskatchewan on May 23, 1956. They raised two children; Blair and Barbara. As a young man, John worked for Tommy Winterton before taking over and making it into Watson’s Clothing. Along with his brother-in-law, Bill Chinn, he owned the Grand Theatre for some years. After retirement, Johnny enjoyed golfing, bowling, wine making, fixing clocks and gardening. Cancer first came into John’s life by taking daughter Barb in 2001, then his beloved Verna in 2002. Johnny passed away after a long battle with cancer at the Southwest Integrated Health Centre with his son Blair by his side who he leaves to mourn along with granddaughters, Taylor and Sarah. A Memorial Tea will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Maple Creek Legion Hall, Maple Creek, Saskatchewan from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. CST. ODOWICHUK, ELAIN MARIE

It is with broken hearts that our family announces the passing of our dear mom Elain Odowichuk on Jan 11, 2016. Beloved wife to the late William (Bill) Cherished and adored mother of Patti (Jason) Stuber, Barry (Tracy) Odowichuk, Loreen (Walker) Grant, Duane (Patty) Odowichuk, and Peggy Reding. Dear grandmother to Dustin (Kayla), Jett, Rachel, Ryan, Shardae, and great-grand son Connor. Predeceased by both her parents Mike and Dora Harris and her siblings Milo, Walter and Marge. Elain was born in Sheho, Saskatchewan and was a long time resident of Medicine Hat Alberta. In 2014 she moved to Belle River Ontario, to live with daughter Chick & son-in-law Walker. Elain will always be remembered as that strong independent woman who loved making furry new friends with the treats in her pocket, during a nice long walk with her beloved, four legged best friend “Teddi”. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who assisted in her care and appreciated sharing in her humor & wit. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Amalia Rossetto of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the age of 88 years, beloved wife of the late Aldo Rossetto. She leaves to cherish her memory three children Leonida (Barb) Rossetto, Mario (Doreen) Rossetto and Marina (Dan) Wallis; five grandchildren, Maria (Jason) Heise; Mark (Aranya) Rosetto; Andrew McKenzie; Marcel (Apiramon) Rossetto; Mikayla Rossetto (Ryan Plysiuk); two great grandchildren, Kierah and Aunika Heise as well as her beloved pet, Sparky. She was predeceased by her parents Maria and Luigi Dalla Longa and her husband Aldo on March 16, 1997. Amalia was born on February 18, 1927 in San Vito do Valdobiadene, Treviso, Italy. She married Aldo Rossetto on January 27, 1951 and they then immigrated to Canada. In 1961, they started Aldo’s Shoe Repair, and the business is still in operation today. Amalia enjoyed her garden, greenhouse and quiet time at her home. Her family will miss her greatly. Katherine Steinkey of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the age of 97 years, beloved wife of the late Joseph “Joe” Steinkey. She also leaves to cherish her memory four children, Evelyn (Lauchie) MacLellan of Winnipeg, Ron (Lavina) Steinkey of Medicine Hat, Bob (Nancy) Steinkey of Medicine Hat and Josephine (Scott) Esau of Okotoks; eight grandchildren Kyle (Trish) Steinkey, Scott Steinkey, Julie (David) Munroe, Marie (Mark) Langton, Janine Steinkey (fiancé Chris Legare), Bailey Durant, Vanessa Esau and Jocelyn (Brady) Hoetmer; three great grandchildren Ashley, William and Andrew; two brothers, Roy Ries and Adam (Lorraine) Ries all of Medicine Hat; two sisters, Lena Shcmaltz of Medicine Hat, Rose Schneider of Fox Valley and her sister-in-law Lillian Ries of Moose Jaw as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Joseph Ries, her husband Joe on December 18, 2010, one son, Gary in infancy, four brothers and three sisters. Katherine Steinkey was born December 19, 1918. She was the 2nd oldest in a large farm family of 12 siblings. Being the oldest daughter she took on the role of helper and caregiver to her younger siblings giving up the dream of becoming a teacher. She stayed on the Ries family farm until she married at the age of 22 and started a new life with her husband and life-time partner Joe Steinkey. Katherine was a strong hard working farm girl raising four children and taking care of the household, the garden and helping with all those farm chores that never ended. She cared for both of her parents in their time of need. Mom and dad farmed in the Fox Valley area until their semi-retirement in 1974, when they moved to Medicine Hat and continued to farm for a few more years. They both enjoyed a very active social life dancing the night away on weekends at the Moose or Legion, or playing cards with friends until the wee hours of the morning. They looked forward to and enjoyed the summer camping trips with family and friends. They could often be found sitting in the backyard having an ice tea in the shade after working in the garden and the yard or preparing some old fashioned baking for the family. For a time Mom volunteered her time and skills with the Legion where she prepared and served many wonderful meals. Mom and dad moved into the Wellington in 2009, after dad’s health started to deteriorate. They enjoyed their time together there until dad’s passing in 2010. Mom then moved into the Teeoda where she lived until her last few days at St. Josephs hospice. After 70 years of marriage and a fulfilling life she looked forward to rejoining Joe and the rest of her family and friends that had gone before her. VIOLA GILL

Viola Catherine Gill, (nee Brady) beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the age of 92 years. Viola is survived by her sons, Marvin (Elaine) and Lynden and was predeceased by her husband, Herbert, her parents, Elizabeth and Carl Brady and her sister, Adelaide Dahlke. Viola was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on June 5, 1923, but grew up on the family farm near Lemsford. She met her husband, Herbert at a social that was held at the Brady farm and they were married on November 8, 1945. Herb and Vi lived in Leader for 12 years until 1957 when they moved to Medicine Hat where they long distance farmed until 1991.
