1920 ~ ANDERSON ~ 2015 Helen Anderson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Gordon Anderson, passed away on Sunday, November 15th, 2015 at the age of 95 years. Helen leaves to cherish her memory her children, Lawrence "Larry" (Donna), Don (Linda), and Grace Torrance; six grandchildren, Kathryn (Myles), Daniel (Jessica), Kristi (Chris), Erin, Alexander "Alex", and Ian; and three great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn, her sister, Edith Sparks; her sister-in-law, Wilma (Don) Gathercole; special cousin, Sadie Alward; several nieces and nephews; and son-in-law, Ken Torrance. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Gordon; and her parents, Don and Imogene McEntee and many cherished friends. Helen was born in Calgary on May 27th, 1920. Her family settled in Gleichen for seven years before moving to Medicine Hat for a short time and then to Brooks. Helen attended Calgary General Nursing School and nursed at Bassano, Brooks, and the original Medical Arts Centre on 2nd Street in Medicine Hat. On September 12th, 1950, Helen married Gordon in Brooks and they settled in Medicine Hat. She enjoyed traveling, spending time at their cottage in Elkwater, and the company of her family and friends. Helen was a long-time member of Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church and was an active volunteer with the UCW Unit #5 and the Ladies of the Shrine. Helen will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at FIFTH AVENUE MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH, 476 – 4th Street SE, on Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Helen Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery. 1922 ~ EBEL ~ 2015 ELMER HENRY EBEL, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father, on Sunday, November 15th, 2015 at the age of 93 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years and 3 days, Annie (Freimark); and cherished by his four children: son, Dennis (Judy) and their two daughters, Corinne (Shayne) Collie and Cindy (Tim) Rosser; daughter, Audrey (Larry) Dahl and their three children, Joel, Laureen (Nick Boulding) and Arlene (Scott) Pedden; son, Glen (Donna) and their three daughters, Nicole (Skya) Kruithof, Mandy and Christina; daughter, Eileen Boyd (Neil Peters) and her two children, Mark (Teri) Coxon and Heather (Chris) Beattie; 9 great grandchildren, Reilly, Isla, Kalem, J.J., Evrett, Annwyn, Sara, Charlotte, Linnea; he is also survived by one brother, David (Dave) Ebel; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Predeceasing Elmer, were his parents, John and Suzanna (Brunner) Ebel; his sister and husband, Anna (Ted) Aman; his two brothers and their wives, John (Freida) Ebel and William (Elsie) Ebel; as well as his infant son, Archie, in 1946.
Elmer was born in Kuest, Saskatchewan on his parent’s homestead. He took over the family farm in 1944 when his father suddenly passed away. Together with his new bride, Annie, they worked the farm and raised the family until 1972, when they moved to Medicine Hat. Being semi-retired and needing to be busy, he added two hours on to every day, by driving out to the farm to continue his farming activities. After a short while, his experience with machinery and “fixing”, led him to a new career at Hat Farm Supply & Cypress Farm Supply where he enjoyed the camaraderie with the customers and fellows.
Elmer loved life and had many interests and hobbies. His faith in God was steadfast, a theme he carried to the charities he supported, community service work, fishing with his friends, woodworking in the condo workshop, welding at the farm, and even a good game on TV. However, nothing was more important than time shared with the family; his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who he loved deeply.
Elmer was a farmer at heart, and he also believed that a farmer’s work is never done. There is now an official and documented retirement date for Elmer; November 15, 2015. “It is finished, my work on earth is done.”

1930 ~ DYCK ~ 2015 Abram "Abe" Dyck of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Eva Dyck, passed away on Wednesday, November 18th, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Abe leaves to cherish his memory his six children, Garry (Sandra) of Lethbridge, Greg (Marilyn) of Medicine Hat, Wayne (Kathy Pollock) of Medicine Hat, Clarence (Debora) of Medicine Hat, Calvin (Linda) of Irvine, and Brenda (Alan) Barton of Medicine Hat; eleven grandchildren, Tyson Dyck, Ashley Dyck, Travis (Candice) Barton, Abbe Barton, Cole Dyck, Jayme Dyck, Dillon (Amanda) Dyck, Kelsey (Tyler) Vermeer, Jordana (Brent) Dyck, Caden (Kelsey) Dyck, and Taryn Dyck; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Emry Vermeer; one brother, Nick of Lethbridge; special companion, Eleanor Mandryk of Medicine Hat; brother-in-law, David Goertzen of Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Abe was predeceased by his wife, Eva on May 13th, 2008; his parents, Franz and Maria; as well as numerous siblings. Abe was born on September 29th, 1930 at Standoff, Alberta and the family relocated to Coaldale shortly afterwards. He received his education at Readymade Country School and met Eva at the age of 15. They were married on June 10th, 1951. Abe and Eva farmed at Coaldale until they homesteaded at Whitla, Alberta. Abe continued to farm until 1981. He and Eva loved to travel and developed lifetime friendships from these many trips. He enjoyed his "precious metals" position at Paradise Valley Par 3 and his involvement with the Prairie Gleaners. Abe found particular enjoyment in "fast cars" and the time he spent with his family and his special companion, Eleanor. 1945 ~ HOWE-CUNNINGHAM ~ 2015 Sharon Louise Howe-Cunningham, beloved wife of John Cunningham of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, November 16th, 2015 at the age of 70 years. Sharon also leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Muriel Howe; two brothers, Neil Howe and Guernald Howe; two sisters, Wendy Howe and Marie Kennedy; and her beloved cat, Mr. Boone. Sharon was predeceased by her step-father, Edward Howe. Sharon was born on January 26th, 1945 in Vancouver. As a young girl she moved to various places including, Vermont, Fort St. John, Guelph and Cambridge. She worked as an Office Manager and was a counselor in Ontario for almost 20 years. After her step-father's passing, Sharon returned to Kelowna to be closer to her mother. Sharon met John on the internet and they were married on August 3rd, 2009, settling together in Medicine Hat. She enjoyed gardening and walking in the coulees when she could. Sharon also enjoyed playing the piano and was a devoted Christian attending regular Bible Study and working in the Prison Ministry in Penticton, British Columbia. The Funeral Service will be held at RIVER VALLEY COMMUNITY CHURCH, (formerly Christ the King Assembly), 1101 Queen Street SE, on Saturday, November 21st, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Borrows officiating. ANNETT Marjorie ‘Marge’ Mae Annett of Medicine Hat died on Monday, November 16, 2015, at the age of 97 years, beloved wife of Harold Wellington ‘Cricket’ Annett. Marge grew up in Watford, Ontario, the youngest and adored daughter of Edith and John McConkey. Her parents had a women’s clothing store and Marge helped at the store through her school years. She was always influenced by fashion through her parents and decorating through her beloved Aunt Lou who owned a fine furniture store in Toronto. She had wonderful memories of her parents, grandparents, the family cabin near Sarnia, Toronto and riding the streetcar to her first job. She was well liked and Cricket considered himself lucky to be the one who captured her heart. They were married and came out west, first to Maple Creek and then to Medicine Hat, growing their cattle operations and becoming successful partners in the feedlot business. There were many cattle deals worked out around their kitchen table over the years. Along the way they made great friends in both communities, immersing themselves into Rotary, hockey, travel to Hawaii, friendships and helping others. To see them waltz together was to see grace in motion.
After Cricket died, Marge built a condo by the river in Medicine Hat, travelled, tended to her home and flowers and hosted her family and friends. She was famous for her homemade bread which she continued to bake right up to her death even though her eyesight was gone. She was beloved by her family and friends especially Barb Ayling who took care of her to the end of her life. Marge was a formidable woman. She was beautiful, strong, smart and especially kind. Everyone also remembers her incredible blue eyes. She will be missed by the people who loved her.
We wish to thank the nurses and staff of 4 West at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital who cared for her. They kept her comfortable and well rested so she could make her final journey to meet her loved ones who have gone ahead to wait for her.
