1917 ~ DEERING ~ 2015
Evelyn Margaret Deering was Mom to her daughters, Barb (Grant) Gardiner and Marlene (Vern) Ruff; Nan to her ten grandchildren, Gary, Catherine, Bruce (Michele), Joni (Murray), Deb (Albert), Jim (Angie), Bob (Kandi), Susan (Mike), Lori (Harlan) and Kathy (Carmen); her twenty-one great grandchildren; and her first great great grandson, Wyatt; two brothers-in-law, Bob Spooner and Howard Moore; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Richardson and Rosie Lehr; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nan was predeceased by her husband, Ed; her daughter, Barb; her parents, Robert and Mary Richardson; her great grandson, Will Bouchard; and her great granddaughter, Erin Gardiner. Nan was the other half of the ever-practical, always there-for-you Nana and Pa duo with whom she shared 62 of her 97 years. Clearly, Nan’s farm upbringing gave her the natural ability to nurture us all through her homemade food – fresh buns, turkey soup, pumpkin pie and nana bread were among our favs. Without question, we were all lucky to have shared so many great years with her. The Nana who seemed like she would really live forever, will truly be missed. Our great thanks to the staff of Sunnyside Nursing Home for their kind care throughout Nan’s last years. The Funeral Service will be held at FIFTH AVENUE MEMORIAL UNITED CHURCH, 476 – 4th Street SE, on Tuesday, September 8th, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Helen Reid officiating. A private interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. A Remarkable Life!
Matilda Schuler’s remarkable life was celebrated in Cook’s Chapel just one week ago today… Along with words of comfort and prayer, Matilda’s strong faith and thoughtful, giving nature were just a few things that Pastor Edel touched on… the beautiful sounds of some of her favorite hymns provided a peaceful time of reflection for all present… Following interment, stories honouring Matilda’s life continued during the time of fellowship thereafter.

JEROME, ANNEBELLE VERONICA
(Nee Jager)
July 3, 1943 – August 22, 2015
Born in Richmound Saskatchewan, Anne embraced life with boundless enthusiasm. She greeted the world with a smile and the world smiled back. She became a teacher because of a desire to make a difference in the lives of children and as way to see Canada. She taught in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and British Columbia where she finally settled down, married and raised two children. At the age of 40 she completed her B. Ed. She retired early to pursue spiritual goals and undertook volunteer work with these in mind. She never met a cookbook she wouldn't open. She discovered that a long walk could become a great hike and kept her Sherpa (Ron) in tow with all the gear. To her commitment to the community she added a keen interest in other cultures, a desire to learn Spanish, world travel and the warm embrace of friends. Her volunteer efforts included George Derby Veterans' Centre, Soup Sisters, a Tzu Chi assisted food bank and a periodic soup and sandwich event for the downtown east side. She liked her Friday and Saturday night chanting gatherings and the wonderful personal encounters that grew out of these. The nickname "Annie of Many Peaks" characterized her desire to capture the peak experiences in life. She won her first encounter with cancer five years ago but was unable to do so a second time. In the intervening time she embraced life with renewed passion. She will be greatly missed by Ron, her husband of 46 years, her son Ryan (Lisa), daughter Renee (Jody) and her grandchildren Calla, Camryn, Raine and Sterling. She will also be missed by her brother Jim (Beatrice), sister Shirley (Dave) and an uncountable number of relatives and friends. Anne always gave without remembering and received without forgetting. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 9th at 1:00pm at Unity of Vancouver, 5840 Oak Street, Vancouver.
LAYNE MITCHELL LANGRIDGE ~ DENNIS "SWOOP" BECKER
July 30, 2001 ~ February 17, 1952
passed away tragically together on the farm
near Burstall, Saskatchewan on August 31, 2015
We are heartbroken to announce that Layne Langridge, aged 14 years, passed from our lives on Monday August 31st.
Layne was the beloved son of Angie and Nelson Langridge and the younger brother to Brooklyn of Burstall, Saskatchewan.
Layne is survived by his grandmother Barb Becker; great grandparents Anne McDowell, Jacquie and Erwin Becker, uncle Barry (Nicole) Becker, aunt Barb (Rocky) Trautman, aunt Lorraine Maidens (Terry Mizen), aunt Colleen Gilbert, aunt Sylvia Sharpe and numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves to cherish his special friends Steven Schneider, and Derrick Kozinski. Layne was predeceased by his grandparents Wayne and June Sharpe and his great-grandfather Garth McDowell.
Layne was the most kind-hearted soul, and made friends with anyone he met. He had an infectious personality that drew everyone to him. His patience with younger kids and cousins made him a hit and they will all miss him so much.
Layne was one of the most loyal people anyone has met. He consistently stuck up for the underdog and proof is him wearing pink all the time to show that colour doesn’t matter.
Layne loved his time with hockey teammates with the Leader/Eston Flyers. He was always a coach favorite, and his witty humor made him a hit with his teammates as well. Layne loved hockey!
Layne’s real passion was boxing. His coaches became his new mentors and his inspiration. He was looking forward to his first boxing match in November. He was very dedicated, passionate and a fire in his eyes to compete. Layne had a great potential in the sport!
Layne will be missed by everyone who knew him! He was a great kid and the hole left by his absence is immense. Too Young. Too Soon.
We are deeply saddened to announce that Dennis Becker, aged 63 years, passed from our lives on Monday August 31st. He lived and died as a hero.
Swoop was born on February 17, 1952 son of Erwin and Jacquie Becker, the oldest of three children. Swoop married Barb McDowell on September 16, 1972. Together they lived, loved, worked, played and raised their family in Burstall Saskatchewan.
Swoop is survived by his mother and father, Jacquie and Erwin Becker of Medicine Hat, loving wife Barb, children Barry (Nicole) Becker , Angie (Nelson) Langridge, sister, Wendy (Lavern) Diebert , brother, Tim Becker (Janice Arthurs), four grandchildren, Brooklyn Langridge and Kaylee, Darien Braylon Becker; his mother-in-law, Anne McDowell (predeceased by his father-in-law Garth McDowell); numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
In 1980, the Town of Burstall, known for its active volunteering community decided to build a public swimming pool. Swoop was a leader in the project and was the first swimming pool president. He was the president of the arena when artificial ice was installed. Any major project or fund raising work bee would find him front and center. At one time or another he served on every committee in town as well as being a town Alderman and RM council member. Swoop had been the volunteer Fire Chief for many years and was instrumental in getting a new fire hall built. In 2000, Swoop received the Saskatchewan Provincial Millennium Award for Volunteerism, in recognition for outstanding community service. Most recently he held the post of Chairman of the Community Hall Commission, working towards a new community centre.
His greatest desire to serve was directed towards the Lions Club with their motto being, “We Serve”. His latest role was with the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides program. Throughout the years he was the heart and sole of the Burstall Lions Club. He held every office at club level and numerous District Cabinet offices. He served on the Lions Multiple District Council of Governors, was Council Chairperson and on the Long Range Planning Team.
Swoop loved his sporting trips with his friends and his son, and enjoyed cheering on his Riders. He was always “In” whenever there was a good time to be had. He loved golfing, fishing and volunteering with his friends. He had an infectious laugh and ability to make everyone feel great about themselves.
Swoop loved his family, and was a big kid playing with his grandkids. He was always the first to start a water fight, or play a prank. He loved sports of all kinds, but more importantly the comradery of being on a team.
Swoop will be sorely missed as reflective of the numerous condolences and best wishes from across the country. A huge hole has been left! We will miss him so much! He was our hero!
Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the PATTISON FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road SE) on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
