.ERB
Peacefully and with gratitude for the company of his family, Ralph David Erb passed away in his home at Seven Persons on September 8, 2014. With heavy hearts bathed in hope we offer a brief sketch of a life well-lived.
Ralph’s unique life began on March 11, 1944, in rural southern Ontario. He was a proud graduate of a one-room schoolhouse grade eight education. Travel was his pleasure and he fell in love with the West as a young man. Along with an adventurous friend he purchased farmland near Seven Persons in 1974. His roots grew deeper when he married Elaine in 1981 and his heart overflowed with the blessing of three amazing sons, Landon, Julian and Reid. Jessica (Landon’s wife) became the daughter he had always hoped for and so loved to tease.
Ralph was a man of sturdy faith knowing himself to be redeemed by Christ and set out to be spent in His service. Generous to the core, he was a leader in his church, community and home. He was enriched serving on the Alberta Pork Producers Marketing Board, political boards and various ministries. His Big Brothers Association in Ontario and Alberta birthed three life-long “little brothers”, Wally Samms and Kevin and Keith Henderson.
In the prime of life, Ralph founded Premium Sausage in his beloved community of Seven Persons. He cared deeply for his staff, referring to them as his ‘dream team’. Retirement was welcomed five years ago when he enjoyed creating in his workshop along with driving truck and visiting family and friends. Ralph was pleased to call Seven Persons home because of the people, landscape and the pace of life.
Ralph was diagnosed with ALS over two and a halfyears ago and accepted an uncertain future with grace and continued living with vigour and no regrets. He treasured his immediate, two extended families and his many friends. Surviving him are his two brothers, Stanley (Doris) Erb and Lloyd (Jean) Erb; a sister-in-law, Velma Erb his mother-in-law, Laurene Zehr, sister-in-law Cheryl (Ron) Bender; brother-in-law Dwight (Donna) Zehr; sister-in-law Mary (Wayne) Wagler; sister-in-law Nancy Zehr (Robin Ramadhin) as well as numerous precious nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clara and Norman Erb, one brother Wilfred and a father-in-law Edward Zehr.
