.1916 ~ DURR ~ 2014
Mrs. Mary (Maria) Durr of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Gottlieb Durr, passed away on Tuesday, July 1st, 2014 at the age of 97 years. Sound in her faith, surrounded by the love and support of her family, and the continuous care of the exceptional Staff at Masterpiece, we take comfort in knowing Mary is celebrating her new life with her Lord and Saviour.
Born on September 25th, 1916 to Wilhelm and Elizabeth (Eberwein) Schmidt, Mary was raised in Yugoslavia until the family immigrated to Canada in 1928. Mary settled in Manyberries, Alberta, her passion for breaking tradition, riding horses, helping in the fields and working outside of the home lead her to meet Gottlieb Durr in 1938. On January 21st, 1939 they were wed. Her love of baking, legendary Strudla, gardening, chokecherry picking and jam making was encouraged by all who were on the receiving end of her efforts!
Mary is survived by three children, Mary (Laverne) Lutz, Melvin (Ann) Durr, Janet (Bert) Trudering; one sister, Christina Stimpson; son-in-law, Harvey Anhorn; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Gottlieb; daughter, Darlene Anhorn; and 6 sisters. We trust Mary is having a joyful reunion with those who have gone before.
Mary’s Family would like to sincerely thank the exceptionally compassionate and competent staff at Masterpiece River Ridge. The thoughtful attention given to her care and morale will never be forgotten. A special word to her “Chocolate Bar Angel”; with each little sweet treat, you made her feel so special.
