Mrs. Melita Krause of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Gustave “Gust” Krause passed away on Wednesday, May 14th at the age of 92 years. Melita leaves to cherish her memory her children, Peggy (Mike) Hansen, Dorothy (Marvin) Bender both of Medicine Hat, Richard (Sherry) Krause of Calgary and Gordon (Sandra) Krause of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and their families. Lavern “Lee” Anderson of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 at the age of 78 years. The Funeral Service was held yesterday in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL with Pastor Bob McGougan officiating. Interment followed in the Family Plot at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Gerhard “Gerry” Engel passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, January 28th, 2014, beloved spouse of Dorinda and loving father to son, Robert (Sheila) Engel, daughter, Cathy Engel, and step-son, Trevor Trainor. Also surviving are his siblings, Waldemar of Stade, Germany, Erwin of Prince George, BC, and Gerda (Ernie) Meston of Swift Current, SK; Dorinda’s parents, Louis and Mary Trainor of Summerside, PEI; brothers-in-law, George (Marg) Trainor and St. Clair Trainor, both of Medicine Hat; sister-in-law, Sheila Trainor of Summerside; and niece, Jillian Trainor of Charlottetown, PEI; the mother of Robert and Cathy, Carol McIvor; numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany; and his furry friend, Molly. Gerhard was predeceased by his parents, Wilhelm and Elsa Engel; his son, David; his son-in-law, Eric Kochie; his sister, Hildegard; and his sister-in-law, Eunice Trainor. Born on August 26th, 1937 in Bessarabia, Romania, Gerhard along with his parents and siblings moved to Germany and in 1954 came to Canada, eventually settling in Redcliff. After working at Brick & Coal, Dominion Glass, and Press Brick, he began his long-term employment with the Goodyear Tire plant in 1966, retiring in 1997. Family came first with Gerhard. His other interests were fishing, playing soccer, and rebuilding vehicle engines. The family would like to thank Dr. Booyens and his staff for the exceptional care of Gerhard. You made everything so much easier on us. To South Country Village (Sunnyview) and Masterpiece staff for making Gerhard as comfortable as possible, and to niece, Alex Vachon for being there for support. Also we would like to thank everyone who phoned, sent cards and dropped off food. .Chan Sau Wan of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the age of 96 years, beloved wife of the late Yee Nga Chung. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Louisa (Sam) and two grandchildren, Sandra (Brendon) and Patrick (Nicole); three great grandchildren, Kristin, Elijah and Annabelle as well as numerous relatives in Hong Kong, U.S.A. and Canada. She was born in Hong Kong where she married Yee Nga Chung who had come back from California to Hong Kong. They had one daughter Louisa who married Sam Woo in Hong Kong in 1969. Her two grandchildren were raised in Medicine Hat. Sandra married Brendon Boire and they have a daughter Kristin and they reside in Vancouver, B.C.; Patrick married Nicole Spentlove and they have two children, making their home in Hong Kong. Chan Sau Wan came to Canada in 1971, settling in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan before moving to Medicine Hat in 1974. All her life she was easy to get along with and was glad to help people who needed it. She was a devout Buddhist and practised the principle of Buddhism, and was given a name of Jen Sau by her Buddhist Master. Chan Sau Wan loved morning jogging, learning the art of Chinese calligraphy, gardening and Chinese cooking. Thank you to the staff at Riverview Care Centre for the excellent care they gave over the past several years. .THEODORE “TED” MAHURA

December 16, 1930 ~ May 14, 2014

It is with sadness that the family of Theodore “Ted” John Mahura of Oyen, beloved husband of Erika Mahura, announce his passing while at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the age of 83 years. Ted was born in Empress, AB., and was the eldest of seven children growing up on the farm 10 miles south of Acadia Valley. He attended Grant school and after completing Grade 9, he continued to help his parents with the farm. On January 24, 1959, he married Erika Specht at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Acadia Valley. From this union, four daughters were born, Cheryl, Dianne, Denise and Lisa. Ted was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Acadia Valley where he served on Parish Council. and was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus. Ted was a dedicated farmer and served on the board of the C.A.R.A, an Agriculture research station in Oyen. He farmed until he was 70, but his heart never could hang up the tractor keys. Ted was always willing to share his knowledge over a cup of coffee and took great pride in all his accomplishments. He will always be remembered for his ‘quick wit’ and his answers for everything. Ted loved to socialize and as a young man he enjoyed his annual curling trip to Calgary with the boys. The Acadia Valley sausage fry was another annual event he looked forward to with his many friends. Ted enjoyed gardening, a good game of cards and just an afternoon drive to check the crops with Erika at his side. He will be forever remembered in the hearts of his wife of 55 years, Erika; daughters, Cheryl (Brad) Stenger, Dianne (Cody) Ball, Denise (Rod) Hertz, Lisa Mahura (Ray Langefeld); seven grandchildren, Janelle (Mike) Grover, Nolan (Erica) Ball, Josh Stenger, Jory Stenger, Kandace Hertz, Amanda Hertz, Joleen Hertz, Troy Langefeld and Ethan Langefeld; one very special great-granddaughter, Quinn Grover and his nephew and good friend, Michael Herman. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Don (Maria) Mahura, Chris (Bob) Staples, Bev (Bud) Herman, Bert Mahura, Alouise (Harry) Henderson as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Helen Mahura; sister, Phyllis (Charles) Martens; sister-in-law, Kathy Mahura; nephew, Murray Staples and special aunt, Sophie Mahura. Those wishing to pay their respects will have the opportunity to do so one hour prior to the Prayer Service and one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. Vigil Prayers will be recited at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 1451 Strachan Road S.E., Medicine Hat on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Father Matthew Emmelkamp celebrant. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Acadia Valley. .WILLIAM O’NEILL
1940 ~ 2014
It is with heavy hearts that the family of William R. (Bill) O’Neill beloved husband of Beverley A. O’Neill, announce his passing at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the age of 73 years, from complications surrounding pneumonia. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Beverley; his three sons, Randy (Shirlene), Rick and Ryan. He is also survived by Rick’s son, Sean and Ryan’s children, Rayna and Bronson as well as numerous relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Beau. In his late teens, Bill played baseball, playing with the Champion Pipeliners in Edmonton. He went to the University of Calgary and married Beverley Striker in Morrin on August 24, 1963. Bill loved sports and spent his career teaching in a number of schools in central and southeast Alberta including, Brooks, Duchess, Tilley and Morrin. He loved teaching and coached basketball as well. He had a wonderful sense of humour and was a man of strong morals who always believed in doing the right thing. Bill retired from teaching in 1995. He was an avid music collector and for a few years owned and operated Arcade Records in Medicine Hat.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Bill’s wishes, a private family memorial will take place at a later date.
