.1935 ~ ANDERSON ~ 2014
Lavern “Lee” Anderson of Medicine Hat, passed away on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 at the age of 78 years. Lee leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Aubrey (Diana) Anderson and Noel (Jennifer MacGregor) Anderson; his daughter, Shawna (Scott) Lamarsh; three grandchildren, Chase Anderson, Evanne Anderson, and Grace Lamarsh; and his sister-in-law, Gladys Anderson. Lee was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Anderson; one son, Jeremie Anderson; four brothers, Edward, Donald, Eric and Robert; one sister, Leona Chesney; and two half-sisters, Mildred and Annabelle. Lee was born at Etzikom on July 31st, 1935. He received his education to Grade 9 at Etzikom and attended high school at Hillcrest Christian College in Medicine Hat where he took some liberal arts and graduated in Theology. Lee was a heavy industrial equipment operator for about ten years, a minister at various district churches for about ten years and worked in social services, at Good Year, and in insurance sales. He was also a small business owner. Lee was involved with the Chamber of Commerce in High Prairie and was involved in the following organizations in Medicine Hat: Unisphere, John Howard Society, Frontier Foundation, Downtown Kiwanis Club, Nazarene Church, the Mental Health Association and the Stampede Board. Lee was an Alderman with the City of Medicine Hat for twelve years and will be remembered for his commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Medicine Hat and District. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 to 10:55 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL on Friday, May 16th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob McGougan officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Plot at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Gerhard “Gerry” Engel passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, January 28th, 2014, beloved spouse of Dorinda and loving father to son, Robert (Sheila) Engel, daughter, Cathy Engel, and step-son, Trevor Trainor. Also surviving are his siblings, Waldemar of Stade, Germany, Erwin of Prince George, BC, and Gerda (Ernie) Meston of Swift Current, SK; Dorinda’s parents, Louis and Mary Trainor of Summerside, PEI; brothers-in-law, George (Marg) Trainor and St. Clair Trainor, both of Medicine Hat; sister-in-law, Sheila Trainor of Summerside; and niece, Jillian Trainor of Charlottetown, PEI; the mother of Robert and Cathy, Carol McIvor; numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Germany; and his furry friend, Molly. Gerhard was predeceased by his parents, Wilhelm and Elsa Engel; his son, David; his son-in-law, Eric Kochie; his sister, Hildegard; and his sister-in-law, Eunice Trainor. Born on August 26th, 1937 in Bessarabia, Romania, Gerhard along with his parents and siblings moved to Germany and in 1954 came to Canada, eventually settling in Redcliff. After working at Brick & Coal, Dominion Glass, and Press Brick, he began his long-term employment with the Goodyear Tire plant in 1966, retiring in 1997. Family came first with Gerhard. His other interests were fishing, playing soccer, and rebuilding vehicle engines. The family would like to thank Dr. Booyens and his staff for the exceptional care of Gerhard. You made everything so much easier on us. To South Country Village (Sunnyview) and Masterpiece staff for making Gerhard as comfortable as possible, and to niece, Alex Vachon for being there for support. Also we would like to thank everyone who phoned, sent cards and dropped off food. A Graveside Service will be held at SAAMIS PRAIRIE VIEW CEMETERY, 5160 Gershaw Drive SW, on Saturday, May 24th, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with Gary W. Goran officiating. Gloria Baker of Burstall, Saskatchewan passed away in Leader, Saskatchewan on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the age of 57 years. Gloria Bernice Shkurotoff of Medicine Hat passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the age of 88 years, beloved wife of the late Bill Shkurotoff. Gloria leaves to cherish her memory two children, Deb (Rick) Schafer and Rand Shkurotoff, one grandchild, Kelly (Elisa) Schafer, two great grandchildren, Jacob and Matthew Schafer, and one sister, Pat (Woody) Woodworth as well as numerous extended family members. Gloria was born and raised in New Brunswick and began a career as a secretary in the armed forces where she met her husband Bill, who was also in the armed forces. They married and traveled extensively all over the world until their retirement to the Medicine Hat area to be with their daughter and extended families. Gloria was a loving and gracious mum, grand mum and wife. She loved all animals but had a special cat, Nikki that she was so fond of. In her retirement years she still continued to travel with her husband to UK and Europe and recently took a trip back to see her sister in New Brunswick in 2010. Gloria was a member of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church and loved attending the various social functions that the church held over the years especially the St. John’s “Robbie Burns” suppers. She met very many amazing and gracious people at the church and cherished their friendship throughout the years. The memorial service will be held in St. John’s Presbyterian Church (504 2nd Street SE) on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Nancy Cocks officiating. Ella Violet Stolz of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the age of 89 years, beloved wife of the late Walter Stolz. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Leonard (Rita) Brace, Randy (Sharon) Stolz, Joyce (Bronco) Atwell and Lori (Chris) Burrows and their families; her brother Clarence (Betty) Berreth as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Ella was predeceased by her first husband Louis Brace in 1954. On November 17, 1959 Ella married Walter Stolz in Medicine Hat and in 2008, she lost the love of her life after sharing 49 years of marriage. With great sadness Ella lost a daughter Helen in 1982, a son Gordon in 1990 as well as her parents Emil and Martha Berreth and by one brother, Fred and four sisters, Ida, Edna, Rita and Shirley.
