.1923 ~ DIETRICH ~ 2014
Mr. George Dietrich, beloved husband of Mrs. Iva Dietrich of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, January 27th, 2014 at the age of 90 years. George Dietrich was born in Richmound, Saskatchewan on May 16th, 1923. George was predeceased by his parents, Christian and Magdalena; two infant siblings; and his sister, Edith. He is survived by his wife, Iva; two children, Dwaine (Pat) and Cynthia (Brian); five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and siblings, Leonard (Josephine) and Delores (Gordon Goebel); Edith’s best friend, Tom Rud; Iva’s sister, Caroline “Kay” Long; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. George grew up on the family farm southeast of Richmound and in October 1947 he married Iva Wilnechenko from Maple Creek. Together, they stayed on the family farm until moving to Golden Prairie in 1949 where George ran the Pioneer elevator. In 1954 George and Iva moved to Maple Creek where George established his construction company. While in Maple Creek George developed his passion for fishing: if he wasn’t fishing, he was talking fishing or fixing his fishing equipment. No lake was too far away that George wouldn’t go if he heard they were catching fish. In 1967 the family moved to Medicine Hat where he worked with a variety of construction companies including Oland, Kellogg and Fluor eventually becoming a site Superintendent. After his retirement in 1983, George and Iva spent many happy days camping and fishing. George’s other passion was his yard: the flowers, trees and birds. Many happy hours were spent in his backyard with his grandchildren. In 2006 George and Iva moved into Chinook Village where they remained until his passing. George will be fondly missed by all his family and friends. Mrs. Mary Lonson of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Lloyd Lonson, passed away on Sunday, January 26th, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Mary leaves to cherish her memory her son, Larry Fischer; her daughter, Donna (Brian) Lesmeister; her chosen son, Bernard Le Prete; two step-sons, Don (Anne) Lonson and Gilbert (Dorothy) Lonson; her step-daughter, Faye Cain; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Traxel; as well as many extended family. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Lonson on August 16th, 1999; her parents, Gottlieb and Leontina Fregin; one son-in-law, Pat Cain; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Fischer; and one sister, Ella Metcalf (Lloyd). Ronald Earl Scharf, soul mate of Donna for 58 years next Tuesday and loving father to daughter, Jody (Gord) Merkel and Tim (deceased), passed away on Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 at the age of 82 years. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kim (Dwight) Layton, Kelley (Evan) Gavelin and Kody (Robyn) Merkel. Papa to Rylee, Auston and Deikon Layton; Dharma Gavelin and step-grandchildren, Kayden and Nolan Gavelin. Ron is also survived by his sister, Beverly (Jim) Wiseman; sister-in-law, Mary Scharf; Donna’s family, Bobbi Wiebe, Mary Dunston and Linda Hepfner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Roy and Rene Scharf. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Bruce and Barry. Ron was in the RCAF for 5 years, and then worked at CPR. He went to university for an education degree as an adult student at the age of 42 years. He taught at Fort Smith, NWT, Hanna, AB and Crescent Heights High School. His love of sports and kids led to him coaching football, first in Moose Jaw and then he started a junior football team at Crescent Heights High School, and then on to the senior team. He was also a volunteer fitness instructor at the YMCA for over 10 years. Ron is a member of Westminster United Church and a Life Member at Connaught Golf Course. Donna and Ron travelled extensively, always with golf clubs in tow. Mrs. Esther “Edna” Hust of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 at the age of 76 years. Edna leaves to cherish her memory four children, Ron (Lorna) Hust, Sandy Sanderson (Derick Oldford), Brian Hust, and Gord (Lorna) Hust; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Christopher, Taylor, and Michael Hust; and three sisters. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Dyck; one son, James Edward Hust; and two sisters. At Edna’s request, no formal funeral service will be held. Lorraine Bauer of Medicine Hat, passed away on Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at the age of 62 years. Lorraine leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Eva Brewer; two daughters, Stephine and Dania, both of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren; one brother, Rainer Brewer of Medicine Hat; one sister, Sharon Hager of Medicine Hat; and special friends, Sister Leona and Karrie McIntyne (Grant Hagedorn). Lorraine was predeceased by her father; and one brother. Lorraine was born on January 11th, 1952 in London, Ontario. She was a Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces. Lorraine loved music, animals and reading her Bible. She was loved by everyone that met her and will be forever missed. Angela Dawn (Angie) McGarry passed away in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the age of 38 years. Angie’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of her family: father, Pat; sister, Rhonda (Rob) and their children, Brady and Caleb; life partner, Stephanie and her children, Nichole and her children Lucas and Sophia; Jacob; Jennifer and Darren. Angie will also be lovingly remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Sharlene, as well as her grandparents, Fred and Irene Mehrer and Jack and Rosina McGarry. Angie was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on July 2, 1975. At the age of 5, her family moved to Medicine Hat where she resided until her passing. Wayne Douglas Hirsekorn passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the age of 64 years, beloved husband of Reine Hirsekorn of Olds, Alberta . He also leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Darcy (Tori) Hirsekorn of Martensville, Saskatchewan, and David (Jamie) Hirsekorn of Olds, Alberta; two grandchildren, Davin and Matthew; his brother, Richard (Diane) Hirsekorn of Brooks; four sisters, Pat (Dave) Dunn of Calgary, Connie (Jason) Reid of Airdrie, Sharon (Murray) Hauck of Brooks and Debbie (Gerry) Fode of Medicine Hat as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Edna Hirsekorn. Wayne was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on October 13th, 1949. He graduated from Medicine Hat High in the Class of 1967. From 1967-1973 he was employed at the Dominion Glass factory in Redcliff, Alberta. He married Reine Beaulac in Medicine Hat, Alberta on April 17th, 1971 and his son Darcy was born on October 13th, 1972. He moved his family to Pine Point, N.W.T in 1973 where Wayne worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He later obtained his Journeyman Machinist Ticket. His son David was born in Hay River, N.W.T on July 13th, 1976. Wayne and his family then moved to Unity, Saskatchewan in 1983 where he worked at the Sifto Salt plant until 1997. In 1997, Wayne and Reine then moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where Wayne worked at the Weyerhauser Pulp and Paper Mill. In 2006, he moved to Brooks, Alberta where he was employed at TCB Machining until 2010. In 2010, he moved to Olds, Alberta where he enjoyed retirement and spent his time working at Wal-Mart. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend. Interment will follow in the Redcliff Cemetery. Jeanne R. Nolin passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the age of 85 years, beloved wife of the late Charles Nolin. She leaves to cherish her memory five children Dianne Hulse of Mississauga, Ontario, Richard Nolin of Kelowna, BC, Ron (Jeanne) Nolin of Airdre, Lynne (Dwayne) Simmons of Fort Qu’appelle, Saskatchewan, and Monique (Kevin) Fernquist of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren Melanie(Mike) Howsam, Amber (Patrick) Fries, Brittany (Kyle) Bandur, Mikalyin Nolin and Karissa Nolin; four great grandchildren Mikayla and Dylan Howsam, Jensen Fries, and Andie Bandur, four sisters, Blanche Lasante of Ponteix, Edna (Bob) Fleury of Swift Current, Yvonne (Bob) Elmore of Saskatoon, and Irene Zampese of Regina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Paul and Delima Lafrance, her husband Charles on June 29, 2002, and one sister Lucille Beck. Jeanne was born and raised in Dollard, Saskatchewan. She attended Dollard School where she received her high school diploma. On April 19, 1950, she married Charles Nolin and together they raised their family of five children. In 1970, they moved to Shaunavon. After raising their family, Jeanne worked at Stedman’s Variety store for several years before becoming an aide at the Houston (Group) Home. Upon their retirement, Charles and Jeanne moved to Medicine Hat in 1989 where she resided until her passing. Her greatest loves in life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Other pleasures included crafts, traveling, listening to music, bowling, playing cards and gardening. Robert John Naismith passed away after a brief battle with cancer at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat, on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the age of 78 years. Bob to everyone who knew him, arrived in the world on July 21, 1935, in Medicine Hat just minutes apart from his twin, David. He was a life-long resident of Medicine Hat, except for a few years living in Seven Persons where among many contributions to the community, he was a member of the volunteer fire department and where he still has many friends. Bob played guitar and loved to ‘jam’ at frequent musical sessions with his beloved cousin, Ruth Mosher of Medicine Hat. He was employed at Northwest Nitro chemical plant for 30 years before his retirement, after which he worked at Hill Home Hardware where many customers and staff remember him fondly. Bob was predeceased by his brother, David, of Kamloops, BC; sister, Helen Elizabeth Wittig, of Red Deer; parents, Hugh and Mary Jane Naismith of Medicine Hat, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his cousin and devoted friend, Ruth Mosher; brothers, Archie (Rene) of Edmonton, Neil (Yvonne) of Winnipeg; niece, Leslie of Vancouver; nephew, Steve of Kamloops; brother-in-law, Lyle Wittig; niece, Wynn (Roger) and nephew, Paul (Jackie) all of Red Deer; nephew, Scott (Erin) and grandnephew, Liam of Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Everyone is asked to remember him in your hearts. His family is forever indebted to the St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice for the extraordinary care and attention provided to him during his stay there. Mr. James “Jim” Chester Cunningham, beloved husband of Mrs. Denise Cunningham of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, January 27th, 2014 at the age of 76 years.  Jim also leaves to cherish his memory one son, Jimmy Cunningham of North Bay, Ontario; one daughter, Deborah (Thomas) Baumann of Edmonton; three grandchildren, Stacey (Nick) Origlia, Alex Baumann, and Michael Horvath; one great-grandson, Matteo Origlia; and one brother, John (Shar) Cunningham.  Jim was predeceased by his parents, Chester and Stella Cunningham; and one daughter, Sharon Horvath on August 8th, 1998.  Jim was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on April 23rd, 1937 and was raised in Sinnett, Saskatchewan.  He joined the RCAF in August of 1958 retiring in December of 1988.  Jim was a loyal Saskatchewan Roughriders fan.  He built a sail boat and taught himself to sail and to ski, and also enrolled in power engineering at the Medicine Hat College for one year.
