1953 ~ 2013
Catherine Lee Hedberg passed away while in the loving care of her Alfred Egan Home family in Bow Island on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the age of 60 years. Cathy was born on January 23, 1953, in Luscar, Alberta. She lived at home with her parents and her brother Ward until the age of 20 before moving to Michener Centre in Red Deer, Alberta in 1973. Cathy enjoyed visits from her family until their health deteriorated. She was predeceased by her mother in 1993, her father in 1996, and her brother in 1997. In 2006, Cathy moved to Alfred Egan Home in Bow Island, Alberta. Cathy was a kind, gentle, unassuming woman, never demanding but always patient. She enjoyed going out for lunch, sitting outside or going for walks in nice weather. Cathy will be missed by the staff and friends whom she came to know as her family at Alfred Egan Home. A Celebration of Cathy’s life will be held at the Alfred Egan Home, 938 – 1st Street East, Bow Island on Monday, December 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Father Fred Monk officiating. Interment will follow at the Bow Island Cemetery. Ella Oster beloved wife of the late John Oster went to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 4, 2013, at the age of 92 years. She would have celebrated her 93rd birthday on Christmas day. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Lilly (Benno) Fus of Medicine Hat, Edda (Emil) Hein of Kelowna, B.C., and one son John “Eddy” (Sheila) Oster of Blairmore, Alberta; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; Anita (Phil) Martens and their children Taylor and Karli; Jim (Tanya) Fus and their children Brittney, Devon & Chayden all of Medicine Hat; Darlene (Darren) Hill and their children Tanner and Kiara of Calgary; Monica (David) Norrington and their son Scott; Rose (Ray) Bauer and their children Emily and Rachel all of Kelowna; Bradley Oster of Toronto; Caralyn (Nick) Bencsik of Calgary; one brother Johann (Lisa) Schaffert of Germany, one brother-in-law Martin Vogt of Sun City West, Arizona, and one sister-in-law Frieda Schaffert of Denver, Colorado, as well as nieces and nephews in Germany and U.S.A. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1982, her parents Andreas and Rosina Schaffert, one brother Adolf Schaffert of Denver, Colorado, and three sisters, Nelly Vogt of Santa Paula, California, Erna (Bruno) Krassnigg and Lydia (Martin) Heinze all of Germany. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 – 10:25 a.m. The funeral service will be held at Temple Baptist Church, (606 – 7th Street S.W.) on Monday December 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Donna Bernadette Fandrich passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the age of 56 years, beloved wife of Gerrard “Gerry” Fandrich of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory three children, Brianne Fandrich (Raymond Murphy), Justin Fandrich and Jason Fandrich; two grandchildren, Austin Murphy and Chase Murphy; one brother-in-law, Mark (Carol) Fandrich; four sisters, Myrna Flaig and her children, Jocelyn, Brock (Michelle Calliou); Patricia Doig and her children, Camile (Tim) Reimer, Ryan (Marnie) Doig; Bonnie Erman and her sons, Cody and Kelly; Adeana (Brent) Jesse and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Esther and Hilbert Flaig. 1944 ~ 2013
Mr. Gordon Larry Bessant, beloved husband of Mrs. Diana Bessant, passed away peacefully at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the age of 69 years. Larry was born on June 9, 1944 in Kingston, Ontario, a son to proud parents, Gordon and Velva Bessant. As a young boy, the family moved to the family farm in the Wawanesa, Manitoba area. He attended a one room country school called Lilly Hill School. Larry met Diana and they were married on his birth date, June 9, 1973 in Elkhorn, Manitoba. He worked as a Heavy Duty Mechanic in various locations throughout Manitoba and Alberta under his Interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanics Ticket. He enjoyed tinkering on engines and liked motorcycles, woodworking, photography and all that nature had to offer – especially owls or as he affectionately referred to them as “hooters”. He also enjoyed sports and rooted for the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Blue Jays. He was kind-hearted, caring and a distinguished family man with rapier wit. Larry was always fun to be around whether it be camping with his family or attending family reunions so he could “line up” all of his female family for hugs, he was well liked and admired and will be deeply missed. Larry will be remembered by his wife Diana; children, Chris (Julie) and Jobina (Steve); grandchildren, Victoria, Tristin, Makendra, Colton and Nayla; a brother, Rodney (Carol); brother-in-law, Larry (Betty); sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Wayne), Cindy and Ellen (Wes); mother-in-law, Dodie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Velva Bessant and his father-in-law, Rod. Dale Verne Pidhirney passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the age of 57 years, beloved husband of Josie Pidhirney of Medicine Hat.
