Celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017 offers an opportunity to mark the occasion with something tangible that will be enjoyed and remembered for years to come.

Organizers of the Daffodil Project hope to see an extra ordinary year of daffodil bulbs planted to celebrate Canada’s special birthday. It would leave a lasting impression every spring as daffodil blooms dance and flutter in the breeze.

The Daffodil Project’s goal is to see a million bulbs planted along the Trans-Canada Highway between Redcliff and Dunmore by 2025. It is two years into that ambitious target.

The Daffodil Project was able to buy the bulbs this year for 21 cents each. Every cent of money donated goes to purchase bulbs and you can track donations and how the money is spent on the website under “financial transparency.”

The Daffodil Project challenges everyone to either donate $150, which would buy about 714 bulbs, or $31.50 to would buy 150 bulbs.

It would be ideal if you would also like to come and plant bulbs next fall on community planting days. Perhaps your family could join togeth7er to donate $150 for bulbs and then make it a family affair on planting day. This would also work for businesses. Staff could use creative ways to raise $150 and challenge other companies to do the same. Teams of employees could plant bulbs together celebrating Canada’s birthday.

“This is a community-based project that does not depend on city financing; a citizen-inspired project to beautify our city and the community all taking part,” said Coun. Les Pearson when he came to plant bulbs last fall.

“It is the social capital stuff like this that makes the city such a great place to live,” said Bob Wanner, NDP MLA for Medicine Hat, who also helped plant bulbs last September.

The Daffodil Project is a way to remember a loved one who has passed on. When notified of this intention when a donation is made, The Daffodil Project records this on its website with the name of the donor and the loved one:
