An advisory regarding the high flow rate in Seven Persons Creek was issued by the city Tuesday, asking residents to exercise caution.

St. Mary’s River Irrigation District announced efforts to manage reservoir and waterway levels, including increasing flow from the Murray Reservoir. Seven Persons Creek is likely to see water levels at our near bankfull levels.

“Fast moving water can cause erosion and river banks can collapse,” said Trevor Rayner, Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator. “Please remain a safe distance from the banks of any waterways and exercise caution.”

Residents are also encouraged to ensure children and pets are kept away from waterways.

“Water temperatures are extremely cold, and with floating ice and debris and high turbidity in the waterways, poor visibility and dangerous conditions exist,” Rayner said.

Seven Persons Creek runs through Cottonwood and Paradise Valley golf courses, Saamis Archeological Site, Kin Coulee Park and Saratoga Dog Park before merging with Ross Creek and flowing into the South Saskatchewan River.
