An 83-year-old man is has been without his best friend Snooky for almost a week now, after the dog went missing Tuesday from his truck at the Family Leisure Centre.

After taking the dog for a walk, the man left the animal in his truck to grab a drink of water from the FLC, and when he got back to his vehicle, the dog was no longer there.

“My uncle had gone to the vet with Snooky and found out that Snooky had liver cancer,” said the man’s niece Pat Kolly. “I guess he was walking around the area and got thirsty. He went in to get water, came out and the dog was just gone, completely gone. He did what he could to look for Snooky, but couldn’t find him.”

Days later the man received a message on his phone telling him to check his mailbox.

“The message told him to go look outside, and he did,” said Kolly. “Inside his mailbox was Snooky’s tags, no information or anything, just his tags. We still haven’t seen the dog.”

Because of the cancer diagnosis, Snooky is in serious need of his medications, which is a big concern for the family.

“He needs this stuff really badly,” said Kolly. “That’s what my uncle is really worrying about. It’s been a while since he’s had his medications now, and we don’t know if he’ll be OK.”

Kolly says her uncle devastated.

“My uncle is heartbroken, this is his best friend,” she said. “We just want to know what happened to Snooky — we just want to know that he’s alive.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Pat at 403-580-5818, or to contact the Medicine Hat Police Service.
