A woman charged with cocaine trafficking and what police say is the largest meth bust on record for the city was granted temporary release from custody Thursday to help plan and attend the funeral of her son in Lethbridge.

With the agreement of the Crown, 47-year-old Shonna Scriven was released on a $3,000 surety put up by family, whom she will reside with under 24-hour house arrest and constant supervision until the end of the month.

She will only be allowed outside the residence to attend the funeral and bereavement ceremonies, religious ceremonies and to check in daily with police.

She is required to return into custody on Jan. 29, with her next court date Jan. 30.

Scriven was arrested on Dec. 8, 2017 when police initiated a planned vehicle stop of the car she was driving just inside city limits on Highway 3. Police seized 1.02 kilograms of methamphetamine and 226 grams of cocaine, worth an estimated $125,000. She was granted release on $5,000 cash bail.

But she was taken into custody as police wrapped up investigation into “dial-a-dope” operation for cocaine trafficking that allegedly occurred between Dec. 2 and 5, and she was charged with five new counts of trafficking.
