Medicine Hat College is hosting the second annual 2nd Chance Designz, a “gently used” clothing sale, to raise money for the school’s Pathways Student Enhancement Fund, starting today at noon.

Pathways is “a fund that assists students should they need help with utilities, or groceries, or something other than (tuition),” said Debbie Nielsen, who’s in charge of the sale.

The sale includes shoes, clothing, jewelry and accessories for both men and women. It goes until 8 p.m. today and from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday at MHC’s Centennial Hall.

Nielsen said items for sale were donated by the 10 individual participating vendors.

“It’s clothing that we have brought in, rather than us just throwing it away or donating it,” she said. “We repurpose it so that it can be sold at less cost.”

Last year, the event raised about $400 for Pathways, she said.

“I would say probably on average we were giving about 50 per cent of what we made to the college fund,” Nielsen said.

She said she would like to donate some of the items to victims of the recent fires in southern Alberta.

“If there’s anybody who needs anything … We would be happy to give them whatever we can,” said Nielsen.

The event is cash only, but there will be ATMs on site.
