A wind warning was issued Tuesday due to powerful gusts blowing through the Medicine Hat region.

Environment Canada estimated the southwest winds ranged between 70 km/h to as high as 100 km/h.

Windy weather is expected for today as well, with west winds anywhere from 20 to 50 km/h expected.

Due to the wind, a tree branch on the wire led to a power outage for approximately an hour in northeast Crescent Heights Tuesday morning.

Some 2,800 customers were affected, said city communications officer Donna Brinkworth, with workers able to restore power within an hour.

The city is “keeping our fingers crossed,” Brinkworth added, that this outage is the only one that will happen due to winds. As well, the city temporarily suspended taking light loads at the landfill site because items could blow away.

Alongside winds though, Medicine Hat stood out Tuesday as being one of the hot spots in the province, with highs reaction 23 C.

Daily highs throughout the week are expected to be between 10 to 20 C, with no lows below zero.
