Area will receive $3-million to fun water projects

Seven water and wastewater projects in the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner riding, are receiving more than $3-million in federal government funding under the Canada-Alberta Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF) agreement.

County of Warner will receive $183,000 for treated storage and $157,500 for distribution upgrades. The county of Cardston will get $1,050,000 for the Aetna regional waterline and $695,000 for the Hillspring waterlines. County Forty-Mile will receive $177,500 and $188,500 for two distribution pumping upgrades and $617,000 for storage reservoir upgrades.

“Infrastructure investments such as these will help meet long-term water demands and will provide important health related and economic benefits for these communities,” said Glen Motz MP for the riding in a press release.

As part of the bilateral agreement with the province, 44 Alberta projects were approved for more than $38.7 million in federal funding. Fifty percent of project costs come under federal jurisdiction, 40 percent provincial, and the 10 percent balance a municipal responsibility. The recent project approvals are in addition to 17 CWWF projects announced for Alberta in September 2016, which included $3.11 million County of Forty Mile/Foremost Manyberries Regional Pipeline.
