Charges of impaired and dangerous driving have been laid against a 41-year-old Medicine Hat man who police say are responsible for driving a vehicle into a fence, house, vehicle, and then another house Saturday evening.

The incident occurred on July 29, when emergency crews responded to the Ross Glen neighbourhood just after 10 p.m. for a motor vehicle collision.

Police say a 2013 Ford Explorer had left the street hit a fence and a house on Ross Glen Road SE. While attempting to leave this scene this vehicle proceeded to strike a truck, then turned on to the cul de sac of Rideau Place and struck a house, causing significant damage.

The approximate damages at this time are estimated at $100,000.

Monday morning, the front of the second house where the vehicle had hit was boarded up with plywood, while workers were removed items from the home’s living room area that was at the front of the house, and destroyed by the vehicle.

The homeowner told the News that no one was home — and therefore no one was injured — at the time of the incident, as the family was at Stampede. They arrived home to police cars and vehicles.

“You always believe it happens to someone else, not you,” the homeowner commented, adding that living in a cul de sac meant he expected there to be less traffic and chances for these sort of incidents.

Police have charged the driver with impaired driving, driving over .08, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. No name has been released by police yet.

He was released from custody and will appear in court on Aug. 3.
