Two Irvine residents charged following seizure of guns, drugs

FACEBOOK/MHPS Firearms, homemade silencers and prohibited magazines were among the items seized from an Irvine residence by police on April 13.

Two Irvine residents are facing firearms and weapons-related charges after police executed a search warrant in that town.

In the search on April 13 members of the Medicine Hat Police Service Priority Street Crimes Unit and Redcliff RCMP seized 10 firearms, three of which were prohibited due to modification of barrel length. Four home-made silencers, prohibited magazines, bear spray, 20 grams of marijuana, and several boxes and storage containers of ammunition were also seized.

Brandalyn Brandham, 31, and Denver Ailsby, 37, were both charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, four counts of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

Ailsby is to appear in court on April 20 and Brandham on May 9.

Medicine Hat police are closely monitoring the times firearms are seized in drug-related investigations. Already in 2017 firearms have been seized in nine drug-related investigations. In all of 2016 firearms were seized in 13 drug-related investigations, which was an an increase from six instances the year before.

Police say a similar trend has been noticed provincially.
