Medicine Hat’s SPCA will be holding its second annual Radiothon today in partnership with CJCY.
The event will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with CJCY announcers broadcasting from the SPCA, talking throughout the day about the organization, programs offered and telling stories about specific animals taken in.
SPCA executive director Katie Ayrnes says they hope to raise $20,000 at this year’s event, as well as raise awareness on SPCAservices.
“The money we raise will go back into helping the SPCA out and funding the programs we run, but we also want people to realize how many programs we run. We’re a lot more than just a place to adopt or drop off animals,” she said.
Some of the programs include a low cost spay and neuter program, a microchiping program, as well as school tours of the building.
The SPCA is also holding a barbecue Friday, where with a $3 minimum donation, one can get a hotdog, pop and chips.
If you wish to donate on Friday, the SPCA will accept online donations, on-air pledges and in-person dropoff donations. All pledges will be read on-air and tweeted, with pledges of $100 or more placed on the SPCA website.
