Governments: What to do, what to do

By Letter to the Editor on June 9th, 2020

The old adage, “It is better to be thought stupid than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt,” is true. Here we have federal Health Minister Patti Hajdu asking violent illegal protesters to wear masks, use hand sanitizer and maintain social distancing. I am surprised she did not ask them to only use nice ... Read More »

More hate is not the answer

By Letter to the Editor on June 9th, 2020

Reading the news articles about all the violence, destruction, chaos, repaying evil with more evil and seeking revenge following the death of George Floyd breaks my heart. People do not know where to take their anger and disappointment so it’s become a free for all in the streets. One young man verbalized so well the ... Read More »

Congratulations to school boards

By Letter to the Editor on May 19th, 2020

I want to thank and congratulate the local school districts for standing up to Jason Kenny’s government by refusing to lay off educational assistants. Not every district in Alberta was able to do so of course, so at the time when parents and students need the most help, our UCP government pulls it away. Special ... Read More »

Medicine Hat News April 24, 2020 In your short essay published in the Medicine Hat News April 24, 2020 page B4 you did not mention that today’s graduates need for extensive financial planning; for those who plan to pursue post secondary school education. The present United Conservative Party, of ... Read More »

Park closures deeply concerning

By Letter to the Editor on May 9th, 2020

I am troubled, and quite frankly confused, about the provincial government’s announcement to close and remove many of our parks in Alberta. This announcement came just before the COVID-19 crisis escalated here in southern Alberta. However, like many Albertans, I have not forgotten. I was raised in Medicine Hat and I am so proud to ... Small businesses need help

By Letter to the Editor on May 9th, 2020

Medicine Hat’s small businesses are in crisis. Due to not qualifying for Federal and Provincial Government funding, many of our loved small businesses will be forced to close permanently.   As a city, we need to show our support for these businesses before it is too late.  Financial aide is needed immediately.  These businesses cannot survive months waiting for financial assistance ... Vacation company refuses refunds, says customer

By Letter to the Editor on May 9th, 2020

It is really shameful to me that there are unscrupulous companies making money off this pandemic. I booked three trips with Getaway Vacations, totalling $2,350. They have told me their policy is “no refunds.” That’s fine if I were the one cancelling, but they did it. Since they can’t give the service, I believe there ... Read More »

I am a proud Medicine Hat Small Business Owner for 9 years. The Corona Virus has affected many people, businesses small and big and is affecting all our lives. We all are in a very difficult situation. The government is doing the best they can in a very short period of time to help many ... Read More »

Are gas well estimates accurate?

By Letter to the Editor on May 7th, 2020

Taxpayers should be concerned they are not being told the full truth with the cost of the well abandonment project the city is embarking on. T he City Natural Gas and Petroleum Resources Division should explain in detail why it estimates the cost of abandonment of the 2000 gas wells to be $90 million. Industry ... Read More »
