Dangerous intersection needs attention

By Letter to the Editor on July 27, 2017.

The road meeting Dunmore Road coming out of the Medicine Hat Mall (the Wendy’s corner) is dangerous, because it’s unsigned for people making a right turn from the mall side onto Dunmore Road.

There is no indication to drivers coming from the area of the mall that vehicles making a left turn off Ross Glen Drive have the right of way.

This has caused many a near miss daily and has the potential for fatal accidents. It is especially dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Visitors stopping in the city for lunch, coffee or going to the mall are unaware of the danger and highly at risk.

It should be signed “no right turn on red light,” as we have at the intersection of Kingsway and South Railroad, which is less of a danger.

We need to do something before someone is fatally or seriously injured.

There’s a stop sign right there for those leaving the mall, and none visible for oncoming traffic or those turning left. What more do you need? The AMA offers great driver safety courses.

It really is a poor design and this city has no shortage of elementary school educated planning of our roadways. For out of town drivers, it can be a hazard when they are unfamiliar with the roads. Once you have stopped at this intersection, many would believe the vehicles turning left should yield to you.
