Cable bridge would boost tourism

By Letter to the Editor on June 16, 2017.

We congratulate the visionaries who 30 years ago fulfilled a dream by developing Echo Dale Regional Park. This park is well manicured and kept in pristine condition. Now maybe it’s time to add a Stage 2 to the regional park.

For this, we suggest a cable bridge to the north side of the river. These bridges need not cost a lot of money and perhaps can be sponsored by service clubs and donations. The bridge at Rosedale in the Drumheller Valley is a serious tourist draw, as is the one at Souris, Man., — now claiming to be the longest suspension bridge in Canada. Ours would be longer.

This bridge would complete the western end of the River Valley Trail System, which is becoming more popular. It would also make Echo Dale more accessible for the visitors from Redcliff. The newly formed “670 Mountain Bike Collective” has recently developed a Burnside trail to Redcliff on the north side of the river. There is already an existing paved trail to Echo Dale on the south side of the river and the proposed bridge would nicely complete the westerly end of this trail system.

It is important for Medicine Hat and Redcliff to pursue this matter and carry it forward to completion, as this would greatly boost tourism to the area.
