I am an active user of city trails and pathways. I cycle, run and walk these wonderful trails. We do have a beautiful city and I am very appreciative of our extensive trail system.
This being said, as I run, walk and cycle these trail systems, I do not appreciate being subjected to harsh chemical smells and particulate as I am inhaling deeply with exercise. I came upon this harsh odour as I was across from the YMCA in the green space adjacent to the Maple Avenue bridge. I also was deeply inhaling these chemicals after having ridden to the top of College Hill as the Medicine Hat College had sprayed the hillside.
Harsh and abusive to my body.
I noted that the sign beside The Y, stated that it had just been sprayed. It was not a City of Medicine Hat sign but a private lawn services sign, I did not see any signs on the college hills. I am wondering if The City of Medicine Hat has contracted out the spraying of harsh chemicals to private contractors so that the City of Medicine Hat is then “not responsible” for this chemical inundation.
Truly, when are we going to awaken to the fact that this practice is “not appreciated” by many citizens and young families of our community as well as insect, bird and wildlife.
Please, let us look to other more progressive “thinking” and “acting” communities in Alberta, Canada and worldwide, for healthier practices. My health and the health of our fellow citizens and other life depends on the health of our soil, our air and our water.
