By Letter to the Editor on March 20, 2017.
I wrote a letter to the editor that was published in the Medicine Hat News on Dec. 5 on my views on the negative effects of a Donald Trump presidency and its spillover effects to Canada.
Recent events that transpired only go to confirm my worst fears. Witness the effects of Canadian citizens trying to enter the U.S.
This is a results of the isolationist, biased bigoted attitude adopted of the newly elected president and supported by the Republican Party. I’m certain we have not heard the end of these negative views. This may be only the tip of the iceberg.
Isolationism is ill-advised, restrictive, narrow minded and very destructive to internal and external economy. Restricted tourism, restricted cultural diversity, restricted open mindedness (or none at all), will only have catastrophic economic results that narrow mindedness is blind to.
Isolationism and open mindedness are as opposite as the North and South Poles.
If I had to choose I would rather have an open mind and learn new things to gain knowledge and understanding as well as tolerance.
Negativity is too prevalent in our free democracy. How we can change it is anybody’s guess, but I choose positive rather than negative thoughts.
